As someone who had Covid March 31, 2020, and was sick for a month (thankfully not so sick to be hospitalized), I experienced the constant migraine, the elevated body temp (over 100.2 for two weeks, then over 99.5 for the last two weeks), fatigue, tinnitus, dry skin, hair falling out, nausea, lack of appetite, loss of sweet taste, and more. I too had periods of post Covid relapse where I could not lift my head off the couch, and headaches. That did eventually stop a couple of months post. The tinnitus took longer to disappear. Lack of appetite still comes and goes. BUT it should get better for you. A few steps forward and one back. Just take it slow. Don't get too discouraged. Stay safe.

Well, you can still write a column helpful for most of us to get a real picture of this unique killer,

Thanks

Lucian, sorry to hear this. I thought perhaps you were over it shortly after you mentioned having it. Doesn't seem fair to me. The only thing good I can say is that most of the people I know who have had it, vaccinated and unvaccinated have gotten over the long haul issues overtime. I hope yours don't last a day longer. I continue to become more frustrated with those who refuse to get the shot. Somehow I don't think it would be like this if it had all happened back in our younger days. Be safe, get well.

Thank you for this particular post as it simply reaffirms the reasons why this 80 year old went out to get the booster. And it makes me furious thinking of all those idiots who refuse to get their first shot. What is doubly scary is that both you and Tracy were fully vaccinated, took every precaution -- and still came down with a major Covid infection. So again thank you for posting how serious this virus is.

Terrible and scary. Hope you and Tracy feel better soon. In the meantime, thank you for taking the time and your energy to educate us.

You’ve put into words what so few are able to do—the incremental reality of recovery from this unknown virus that we still have to learn so much more about. I’m so sorry this has descended on you two, who have been so vigilant and have had so much to celebrate this summer (wedding!) but I trust what you tell us about this strange new disease.

So sorry to hear that for you and Tracy that the virus persists. I hope that it starts to wane quickly. Be safe.

Breakthrough COVID is really scary and seems so unfair. You spent 18 months isolating and being so careful. You got vaccinated. You've done everything right. Now, bam! I'm thinking good thoughts for you both. Stay safe and keep writing.

Gosh, I’ll bet this wasn’t the honeymoon you expected, Lucian and Tracy! I’m so sorry you have lingering illness and hope it goes away soon. Thank God you are not so sick that you can’t write! This post was a real eye-opener for those of us who are thinking we’re (relatively) safe because we’re vaccinated. Be well.

Felt much as you do after having a virus in 1979. I’ve had long-haul “whatever” ever since then, unfortunately referred to as Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. (Grrr.) Even the leaning on the basket in Target sounds sadly familiar. It was a rough adjustment to go from living a full, free life to being ‘stalked’ by fatigue. But it is doable. I only hope you don’t have to!

Ditto here. And with CFS you look normal so why can't you get anything done. I also hope the Truscott's recovery is full and soon.

Thank you, Lucian. You've spelled out for us the true nature of the so-called "breakthrough" covid infection. It is far worse than I realized. I know some of the feelings from my bout with Lyme disease in 2013. I've never been so tired. However, a couple pills and I was immediately better. Your rage at the tall A-hole in the CVS line is well justified. Jill and I are going to be more careful. Sorry you and Tracy had to go through this.

Take care, feel better every day and keep us posted 😷

I'm profoundly sad when I read what you've written. Keep reporting what you're experiencing. If there's a database that will track long-term effects, your physician should be reporting those episodes for aggregation and further study.

I am so sorry this vicious little mf'er of a virus is taking such a toll on you.

But what it does show that this virus is not only vicious, it will be around a very long time, and that anyone who is not vaccinated has asked for the Queen of Spades in a big way (you know how to play hearts, don't you?) and she's not going to take no for an answer.

Which goes to show that we, the vaccinated are well within our rights to be terrified of this disease without end and that we were justified in panicking about getting the shot, masking and isolating ourselves.

It might be the older we are, the more lingering the effects are-because we are older, our bodies are more prone to being sickened by this. I don't know if it's the same with younger people.

Whatever it is, this virus is nothing to laugh at, and anyone who is amused by it has no conception of the danger it poses.

We have no idea if time will tame this or not, but we can't assume anything.

Please take care and fight on!
