This is part of what I’ve been doing today to get ready for the visit of my sister Ginny and brother in law Benny for Thanksgiving. This sideboard hadn’t been cleaned and straightened up for months…we won’t talk about how many, but I’m pretty sure snow was on the ground. It had become a catch-all for stuff from my desk I found I had to quickly put aside…a dead NY Times clipping about some scandal or another…some Field Notes pocket notebooks I use to jot down ideas when Tracy and I are having lunch…a coiled cell phone charger cord…plus accumulated dust and leavings from a long-gone flower arrangement.
You get the idea.
Family coming for a holiday is as good an excuse as any to get stuff together around here, and that’s what Tracy and I have been doing for the last couple days. I’ve kept an eye on the headlines (such as they are) consisting mainly of the president-elect’s latest appointment of a mega-donor or conductor on one right-wing media railroad or another to serve in his Cabinet. Word over the last couple of days has it that he isn’t doing FBI background checks on any of his loyalists — we know they weren’t combing through the past of Pete Hegseth — so, as November ambles into December and the New Year hits Washington with a new Senate and House sworn in and hearings begin to be scheduled, the FBI isn’t the only organization that can thumb through old tweets and speeches and Fox News appearances made by Trump’s cast of crazies, and it’s unknown at this point what effect such revelations might have on Senators who will be voting on the confirmation of Trump’s loyalists, but it’s a good bet we’ll have some fun on the horizon.
For the next few days, it’s going to be smelling like pies and turkey and spiced tea around here, but I’ve got my nose to the ground for any “news” coming out of Mar-a-Lago and environs and will report my findings as they come.
We used to ask Mom if the king and queen were coming when she was cleaning everything before guests arrived! I’m honored to be the queen! Can’t wait to see you! 😘
Happy Thanksgiving Lucian
to you and your family. Happy
gathering for all.
