We used to ask Mom if the king and queen were coming when she was cleaning everything before guests arrived! I’m honored to be the queen! Can’t wait to see you! 😘

The whole point of having people over is to motivate you to sort out the stuff that has piled up over the months and do some dusting along with a quick wiped down.

Have a wonderful get-together and don't forget to bring your crowns!

So why aren’t there any consequences for Donald Trump breaking the rules when there are consequences for the rest of the population? He won’t sign the ethics part of the transition plan and yet he’s still allowed to go into his transition plan. What’s up with that? My personal feeling is that they should tell him, and by they, I mean, Biden, and the department of justice, that he cannot be inaugurated until he signs to ethics portion of the transition plan. And as for not going through security checks, how the hell does he get away with that? Shouldn’t we be holding him accountable? Just asking

Thank you, Dr. Connie Kellogg, for asking the questions that need to be asked. I don't really expect an answer, and that is sad and scary😮‍💨. Is anyone courageous enough to stand up to him? Anyone??

There must be an answer somewhere in the annals of history.

How far do you have to go back? Fred Flintstone and Wilma. The Lone Ranger and Tonto? Come on Lucy and Desi! George and Gracie? The Trojan Horse. Seriously, we're running out of options. The Garden of Eden . . . and that nasty woman.

"On the Beach" by Nevil Shute was a particular favorite. It was written in 1957 and released as a movie directed by Stanley Kramer in 1959. The purpose (yes, historic novels can have a serious context.) In this one, the author sought to arouse deniers who believed that radiation was not going to present Mother Earth with a count-down.

The last line in the drama speaks to us in 2024: "There's still time brother!"

The camera pans to an empty streets. And a telegraph key tied to a window shade blowing in the wind, as a sign of human life suspended.

Putin firing ballistic missiles into Ukraine made me think of "On the Beach". That led to a deep dive last evening on YouTube for versions of the song "Morning Dew" written by Bonnie Dobson after she read the book.

All I wanted for Christmas was to see Trump in jail, but ended up with a big lump of coal in my stocking.

Read an interesting analysis -sorry can't remember where- in which all the excuses for skipping paperwork and FBI reviews were framed as justifiable in PR terms.

Stuff like "people don't trust the FBI, so why would it matter?" "people are tired of waiting, they want us to get on with it;" in other words public opinion (Even if you're making it up as you go along) is all that matters. Not legal requirements, not precedent, not national security. So much for the Constitution and the rule of law.

Enjoy your holiday, and try to put aside thoughts of the other kinds of turkeys in our midst.

Same at our house! We are hosting a Friendsgiving (neither I nor my partner have any family left in the area) and as I look at my haphazard housekeeping with a guest's eye...I have been cleaning out closets and hutches and refrigerators in anticipation of our friends arriving.

They will be bringing some dishes and together with my own efforts to deal with a turkey that is 5 pounds heavier than my requested weight we will have food aplenty! I haven't roasted a 20 lbs. turkey is a decade--maybe more! This should be "interesting".

We need to understand we now have new form of government. Our prediction of autocracy, and one, in this case, run by a tight knit cadre of oligarchs surrounding a stupid, easily manipulated narcissist was not just campaign rhetoric. It happened. All we can do is keep saying the truth, do the right thing even as walls close around us. ( paraphrase of Heather Cox Richardson speaking to Jon Stewart. ). Yes, Thanksgiving for a diminished America, but the money never sleeps.

We’re ’protesting’ (for the lack of a better term) by having a non-traditional day after Thanksgiving dinner. This year it’s wild-caught king salmon, grilled asparagus, scalloped potatoes and a green bean & farro dish. A green salad and a pumpkin pie rounds out the meal.

FIL from Denver and a niece from Brooklyn are our guests. Wine and whiskey will flow. A fire pit may be lit.

Have a happy and healthy Thanksgiving, Truscotts and all else who inhabit this Substack.

Peace & Love

Thank you…but without an address, I won’t know where to be on Friday. It sounds splendid!

I'll keep my head to the ground, stay informed and maintain vigilance. It's time for a little breather for a few days and hope nothing earth shattering occurs. A warm and happy Thanksgiving to you and to the rest of this wonderful community.

Any minute now I’ll be springing into ‘is that a cobweb over there?” Mode. Oddly it’s fun. Not oddly I need to nap or 3 to recover on Friday…

Happy Thanksgiving 🙏

Wish I COULD recover on Friday - pray for me as I work retail on Black Friday, then Small Business Saturday! It is a great feeling to have a clean house finally. All it takes is a little company!

something new for me this year. Had knee replacement surgery a mere 3 weeks ago so am turning over the holiday to my son, daughter and son's longtime girlfriend. Before we always had a feast with invited strays who added the necessary spice to such a graceful holiday. This year I sit back with more intimate company and cede control. 🤭

That was so hard for me to do as well! This year, I’m playing Dowager…just trying to learn several of Maggie Smith’s most memorable “cuts” to use at the dining table!

Happy Thanksgiving to you, Tracy and the cats! Hopefully, we can all take a break from the news. I am watching much less these days however, want to keep up.

I believe Congress is on Recess but I want to call my Senators tomorrow and tell them not to vote for the human turkeys that you know who picked!

We have so much to be thankful for (before they take it all away!!) and its important to take care of your environment. I speak as the piles about my desk beg for filing. You feel much better and your thoughts will flow unfettered by the flim flam! Having a "family altar", especially at the holidays, is an important ritual. Have a great Thanksgiving with you and yours!
