Holy shit. I had a hard enough time of it keeping up with seven years of Trump's BS. Now, I'm sitting here slack-jawed and drooling after only seven days of "Our gay-straight-married-divorced-claimed-to-be-married-again-Christian-Jew-ish-practicing-Catholic (-Devolder-Devolder Santos-Santos) shapeshifter."

I'm hysterical. Lucian's lede cracked me up, and it kept getting worse -- that aside about Trump's election being a possible terrorist attack! That deadpan "Nassau County Republican Party announced this week that it would not back Santos if he runs for reelection in 2024"!

Seriously (I think), Lucian -- your timing is impeccable. True, the material is great, but the delivery puts it over the top. Can't wait to see what happens next.

Wow! Why does this not surprise me? Another well paid Putin puppet infiltrating our government. I hope the investigations into his finances are accelerated and he goes to prison before he can do anymore damage to our country.

The Repugnantcan party is filled with pathetic sociopathic weirdos. Just one big gathering of ignorant, lazy, lying criminals. It’s like a giant sinkhole that keeps getting bigger dragging more and more excited lemmings down into it. I would say it’s shocking but there’s nothing left to shock since the putrid orange monster won instead of the ‘email’ lady.

Rep. X can’t seem to get his own biographical details straight, but he’s got the Russian propaganda points regarding Ukraine spot on.

Better keep the masters there happy. The Atlantic has a piece today on Sudden Russian Death Syndrome. I knew there’d been a few. They reported there have been some two dozen notable deaths this year.

One of the best things I learned in high school history was about the Defenestration of Prague (1618). Little did I know that in my middle-age-and-then-some defenestration would again become A Thing. History really does rhyme, in unexpected ways. (IIRC the defenestrated envoys in 1618 survived but I should look that up.)

Expand full comment

I love the fact that there’s actually a word for throwing someone out a window. 😮

Expand full comment

OMG, so do I! I loved it in high school (as did my history teacher, the incredible Sylvia Sherman), and I love it now. I just looked it up: the Defenestration of Prague in 1618 is the best known, but it most definitely was not the first. So of course there *had* to be a word for it.

Expand full comment

I had no idea there was a word for that. I just looked it up: “the action of throwing someone out of a window “. Thanks Susanna! I’m always looking to increase my vocabulary😹. I hadn’t heard of the Defenestration of Prague either. Or maybe forgot. High school was a long time ago.

Just heard on NBC, Santos is sending out invitations to his swearing in. $100 donation, $500 for VIP status. I'm sure there are Drumpfer's in Nassau County that would love to be Santos VIP's.

I don't think they want to.

It’s a Catch-22. The sane ones won’t worship the Golden Idol of Mar a Lago. And hence the base won’t vote for them. It’s kind of a predicament they’re in. 😢

I predicted something like this the other day. It just seemed, in a way, a natural extension of all his lying. And I think we are far from done in the discoveries department. I’m predicting again when the heat under his butt goes up he’ll bail for the Rio hills w/wo his alleged husband. So far no one has produced documentation of that $700K alleged loan. Nor is there an American birth certificate or passport in view. Although the state department should easily determine whether he has a valid American passport. Is he a citizen or not? If he’s (likely) not that throws him out of Congress immediately, presumably without a vote. And if that happens, with several prosecutors stoking that fire under his butt, he’s gone.

we must have a law to vet ALL key members of all THREE branches of the government.

it is vital for proper Executive command, Legislative standing, and Justice ethics.

wouldnt hurt to vet other crucial positions too

Expand full comment

It's ironic that here in NY, state employees take the same oath of office as the POTUS, but there is no vetting of congressional candidates. Employees are expected to pass a criminal background check, be fingerprinted and in the case of agency and department heads, submit their tax returns every year. And along comes this guy who reminds me of "Catch Me If You Can."

This morning we find out he never as he claimed even went to Horace Mann High School...this, after we found out his claims of college were totally false.

BOTH parties, all NYC TV stations, and the NYT should be ashamed of themselves. They could have found all this out a few years ago.

I just want to say that I am not Jew-ish but am Jewish. #1 Parents were Holocaust victims and my mother did, in fact, escape Germany in traveling to Brussels. #2 Santos is pathological. He is a liar and a Russian plant. #3 Santos/Devolder or whoever this scum is must NOT be sworn in. #4 Qevin must not be speaker. #5 Dump and Kids are also pathological and Jared is dangerous. I have to wonder whether George Santos got his name and birth certificate out of some state's Department of Vital Statistics, specifically, records of deaths of infant children who were too young to establish independent identities of their own. I have to wonder whether George Santos is even an American citizen by birth or by naturalization; you know the kind of shitbum that one senator named Cruz from Texas, born in Manitoba, has turned out to be. Has anyone gotten a hold of Santos' DNA that could be compared with people living in the United States who might be unlucky enough to count him among their close relatives? Instead of hassling Trump, about whom we know absolutely everything down to the amount of toilet tissue he stuffed down the White House commode, send Maggie Haberman off on a fact-finding mission to track down this cockroach's near and distant relatives to find out what they know about him; probably, a great deal if my knowledge of troubled families is any measure of accuracy. Between the district attorneys for Queens County and Nassau County, in New York State, and the United States Attorney for the Eastern District of New York, there's going to be enough gumshoe leather focusing on this guy down into the indefinite future.

Now we learn that a husband-and-wife team of deep-pocketed Republicans have laid out campaign cash on behalf of Santos to the tune of $56,000, and perhaps a great deal more. This guy is a nobody, and your big money Republicans are showering cash on him like they were Reichsbank Billion-Mark banknotes during the Weimar Republic's hyperinflation crisis of the 1920s. How is it that during the recent elections, ordinary wooden-headed Republican candidates were going begging for money from would-be campaign donors, and this guy shows up on the North Shore of Long Island claiming to have 'loaned' his election campaign $700,000 or $750,000, when the year before he made about as much as an Amazon Prime or UPS package delivery driver. Anyone listening to Santos for less than three minutes would have to conclude that the guy is a complete and utter flake. What kind of dupe lays out that kind of cash to shape-shifting conman with no apparent track record for anything, except having lost a congressional race for the same seat he subsequently won. The losing effort was in 2020; and what did the public record say about Santos' financials during that campaign? Who were his campaign donors in 2020? Did anybody vouch for him back then? And when was he born? He looks like someone in his mid-20s with all the baby fat still on him. So, newsmongers, time to put Trump aside, because there is nothing worth knowing about Trump that is yet to be discovered, and let's find out about George Santos, about whom things have gotten curiouser and curiouser over the past few months.

Expand full comment

Superb questions all, Arthur. The DAs and U.S. Attorney need to get an ankle bracelet on this Putin agent before he flees the country for Brazil or the USSR (yes, I know but it's what Putin wants to return Russia to). At a minimum Santos/Devolder/Schmuckatelly should NOT be allowed inside the halls of Congress. The Repugnants won't stop him from being seated because they desperately want/need his vote, so I hope some legal eagles figure out a way to keep him out.

Expand full comment

One way is to crowd-source everything that's known and provable about Santos to investigative journalists and state and federal prosecutors. Tipsters do point the way to arrests and convictions. Who are his friends and business associates. Who knows about the money trail. The guy's been hiding in plain sight for years.

things like santos didnt really start campaigning until just the last few weeks,

and he only had $5000. in his coffer
