At the Uvalde massacre about 400 heavily armed cops failed to do their duty: defend the teachers and children. That is about the size of an Army battalion in Vietnam (after months of casualties). I would bet that about 3/4 of those cops were ex-military or reservists. Their cowardice should never be forgotten or forgiven. They should all be made to turn in their COSTUMES and weapons.

It was recently revealed that they were afraid of the shooter’s assault rifle. Duh! They were aware of what they knew it could do.

Nothing will happen because the GOP =Guns Over People. Even good citizens are desensitized and demoralized. I would love to see 15 to 20 million citizens take to the streets to protest but even more I need 100 million citizens to VOTE.

Of course mtg's idea of 'good guys with guns' protecting school children is Proud Boys, Oath Keepers, and other thugs she wants to see sprung soonest.

The perfect definition of insanity - doing the same thing in the same way and expecting different results. So far making it easier and easier to get guns has only resulted in the senseless murder of more and more people. This plan doesn't seem to be working.

Another observation on this gun situation here.An aftermath of one of these shootings is that gun sales, especially AR-15s, increase as gun nuts think that their guns are going to be taken or they will not be able to get more. This is insanity.

Along the lines of Lucien’s post, I was thinking it might actually take the killing of a gun manufacturer executive’s child in a mass shooing for us to see any progress toward sane gun legislation, but as he said of death cult congress members like MTG, that would be giving way too much credit.

How about forcing one of them to attend the scene of some of these shootings, and clean up the mess left behind? I recall film showing the liberation of concentration camps during WW2 where US Army commanders forced local residents, who were complicit (or at least in denial about what was happening in their town) in the operation of the camps, to do just that. I have to say that it made me proud that our Army did that. I think that it is too convenient for the sellers of these butchering devices to regard the results of their lust for greenbacks as an abstract enterprise. But it will never happen. Once this country began tolerating massacre of kids, I pretty much gave up hope for rational control control of killing machines. (Let's not deceive ourselves, these are not guns like one could use for e.g., duck hunting, the only purposes they have are wholesale slaughter of human beings, or satisfying some feeling of inadequacy among their adherents.) So much for "thoughts and prayers." Pray instead that you win the lottery, at least someone will eventually win that, no matter how long it takes.

I was just thinking as I had the TV on this afternoon that they should have to watch the films over and over and over and spend time with parents waiting to see if their child is dead or alive. They make me sick.

Agree.

US mass shootings have tracked US wars, i.e. they both have been intentionally sterilized to the public at large. Doing so minimizes the horror and the shame.

Emmett Till's Mum insistence of an open casket should be the guiding principle and to your point include all who had a hand in the event. All. No exceptions.

That would do nothing. $$$ would trump his child.

Nope. No hope of "converting' these people. The exec would just call for more guns (of course the dark side is that this would increase sales and profits)

There's a movie that pretty much tracks your thought. Shooter lost his daughter to gun violence, then set up the manufacture's wife in the public square to get to her husband.

This is an excellent interview with Jon Stewert interviewing Nathan Dahm (OK state senator) about the “more guns make us safer” argument. Well worth your time to watch.

Truly, Jon Stewart should be leading MSM dialogue! He’s brilliant at what he does and he slammed this jerk-off down!

I had missed this episode of Stewart. Thanks for sharing. No one is better than Stewart at showing hypocrisy. He did the same thing to Larry Summers regarding the banking "crisis".

Yes, Marge, secret service protection for kids at school. Perfect. But don’t forget grocery shoppers, 4th of July parade watchers, movie goers, people at prayer, etc., etc., etc.

We have raced past parody into the land of the absurd. The profundity of proud ignorance displayed by these GOP as a badge of honor is the gangrene that might bring down our democracy. Thank you for your intrepid efforts to shine a light on the rot.

The Republicans (even the "good" ones who are said to be in hiding, sort of [like Sen Romney]) are all aiding and abetting murders throughout the land. It is time for Democrats, including the President, to call out these goons for what they are: In addition to the he pro-gun legislator, makers of AR-15s and all the rest are also aiding and abetting murders. Time to put that on billboards---merchants of death! MTG is crazy---to protect children in the way the President is protected would mean several "good guys with guns" per student! What crapola.

Steve Scalise barely escaped with his life when he was shot. What did he do? He used it as an opportunity to demonize “liberals”. He’s a perfect example of who these people are. As for the blonde baboon (MTG), there’s no hope. She’s one of the top money raisers in the GOP. Every time I try to be optimistic about our politics, an idiot like MTG opens their mouth and the sheep follow and throw money at them.

I do not believe the GOP lawmakers believe even half the shit they spew about guns (or abortion, for that matter). Remember the first job of every politician is to get reelected. And what kind of "real" job is Marge qualified for - a conservative think tank? They must perform for the base, otherwise they will get primaried. And they are all addicted to that sweet, sweet NRA cash. I don't expect any meaningful legislation in my lifetime.
