Glad on the road to recovery. Something to make you smile "Marjorie Taylor Greene thinks that the Fulton County district attorney should be “going after rapists,” not Donald Trump. Luckily for her, the Georgia indictment actually kills both birds with one stone. " "https://www.yahoo.com/news/marjorie-taylor-greene-says-trump-141719324.html

Robert, why do you think the repugs are so obsessed with S E X? It boggles the mind....and they are blind to the blatant sexual dysfunction among their members....

I had never thought about that, Elizabeth. But now that you mention it the party seems to attract the less than refined individual, dare I say course, even obnoxious. Certainly animalistic in many ways. Not all mind you, some are of the old school who hate being caught up with and lumped together with this type but their party was hijacked and they are helpless. Look how many Republican voting officials as in Georgia such as Raffensberger, and Duncan and the Governor, Kemp that resisted the efforts by Trump and Co to pressure then to come up with more votes, and then there were those in the White House who testified in the hearings against Trump, Then there were the animals that attacked the Capitol and those who threatened the Poll workers and now threatening Grand Jury individuals, and the DA even the judge. They are all enemies of Democracy but think of themselves as patriots. Yes Repugs alright I'm afraid - the despicables. Sad to see . . .our country in such decline, all because of Trump and his hateful angry rhetoric. He opened a Pandora's box.

Those qualities seem to be embraced by the defectives among us.

Take good care of yourselves. I will make my appointment tout de suite! I am nervous. I haven’t done anything since February 2020. I traveled to Denver to see Alan Parsons Project. I bought tickets two weeks ago for a shorter trip, to Bloomington, IN to see Carrie Newcomer and Tommy Prine, John’s son. I intend to say my prayers of protection and go. I have no idea when it may be safe for me to wander again. I hope I live long enough to enjoy such adventures. Meanwhile, I wander the web and am grateful I found you and your friends. ♥️

I got the shot and both boosters when I came down with COVID-19 last June. After three days, I superficially recovered. But I suffered long-term "brain fog" and was unable to do any writing until March the following year. Scared the hell out of me.

Wow. Take care

Thanks for the kind thoughts. I'm recovered and have been blazing away on my novel, amongst other projects.

Impressive, sir

Isn't "brain fog" delightful? How is your short term memory now? Okay?

Adding to the growing pile, my wishes for a complete recovery to you both.

Obliquely, an alternative media source here in New Zealand has introduced further positive thinking by way of an interesting article regarding an upcoming paper purported to be produced by a pair of conservative members of the Federalist Society, to be published in the University of Pennsylvania Law Review next year.

https://truthout.org/articles/supreme-court-has-an-originalist-roadmap-to-disqualify-trump-from-the-presidency/?mc_cid=18d4b13664&mc_cid=a8b4a066a5&mc_eid=fb7391a737&mc_eid=cc4cb19c25

Precedent has been established by a group of New Mexico citizens that filed a "quo warranto" lawsuit which succeeded in removing Otero County Commissioner Couy Griffin (who participated in the January 6 insurrection) from office and permanently barred him from seeking or holding any other such position.

Perhaps this shows that there is recourse available for citizens, you the people, to take matters into you own collective hands.

Were I a registered voter in let's say Georgia for example I would definitely be trying to find other like-minded people with the aim of forming a group to attempt that process against Marjorie Taylor Greene. The same for those Republican representatives who called for the results of the 2020 U.S. presidential election in some states to be decertified and/or were part of the group of Republican legislators that unsuccessfully challenged votes for Joe Biden during the 2021 United States Electoral College vote count.

Thanks for posting that article by truthout. I guess I have been so paranoid about the Federalist Society that I feel a bit skeptical that two conservative law professors have proclaimed Trump cannot try and run for prez.

Expand full comment

I think you wise to be skeptical Marlene, they may be law professors but why did they wait two years and four indictments to leak/voice this now? Plus they will only be positing an opinion, a theory, and not publishing until next year. Not exactly resounding with conviction, to my eyes. I would be more impressed if they were filing a tort or some other legal action seeking enforcement of Section 3 of the 14th Amendment against Donald J Trump.

LOL, law professors are law professors (he said tautologically), these two would likely be quite happy to allow someone else to spend the requisite hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of hours on a constitutional challenge, based on the same or similar theory of the 14th Amendment, and cite their law review paper.

They have other work to do! Vague Craig you are usually a much more alert Kiwi!

But seriously it's extremely uncommon for law professors in the USA to sue apart from their own personal legal problems (maybe suing an employer for discrimination or some contract breach, that happens "all the time") and in this case, not even necessary, the grassroots campaigns mentioned will be in full gear on this, guaranteed!

I would dissent from the term "only" as a modifier of "opinion, a theory," opinions and theories make human societies hum along getting things done, whether on the level of one's own opinions of how to prioritize the way you need or want to spend time on errands, research, gabbing on the phone with your paramour, ordering lunch, paying bills, writing semi-snarky replies to usually very perceptive people in New Zealand, or REALLY vitriolic comments on the New York Post articles about Hunter Biden's "laptop" - the one prosecutors had for TEN MONTHS before they bothered to try to validate it! - or opinions, theories about who has legally enforceable rights and what rights those are, who has a legitimate monopoly on the use of force, who can do business with the public and how they are taxed, regulated, overseen by professional colleagues organized to uphold standards, standards of what is and is not acceptable clothing for appearing in public ("Free the nipple" campaigns highlighting connected controversies, et cetera) and in the privacy of private property clubs for members only, and on and on.

Words are more powerful than guns, the pen is mightier than the sword. Putin understands that!

I rode the bus today in Palm Springs, CA. The driver and I were masked. I figure the bus drivers know what's up. They mask, so do I. I am also cutting back on going out. Zoom meetings. Deliveries.

I was just in Palm Springs from last Wednesday to this past Monday. Celebrated my oldest daughter’s 40th bday. I always wear my mask into stores or cars. Wore it on the plane too while others did not. I am too afraid not to.

Dear Lucien

I'm so sorry that you've been down with this new variant and hope you and your wife recover really soon. We should all pay attention because Covid is re-emerging and spreading. The only upside for you is the immunity you'll acquire via the virus but you didn't need it. Feel better!
