First, I would like to thank those of you who responded to my previous column asking for advice about keeping “monsters like this one off kitchen counters.” The prevailing wisdom seemed to counsel giving up. Cats are gonna do what cats are gonna do. I indicated in a comment (number 195 of 196) that Tracy and I were taking that sage advice and acknowledging that “when it comes to countertops, Tazzy lives here. We're just kitchen workers.”
Congratulations! You have learned to think like cat, which is pretty much the only way to reach an amicable compromise with a cat.
Now let's see if we can put this strategy to work with the debt ceiling. IMO President Biden did a pretty good job last night, getting the Republicans to settle into the Protect Medicare/Social Security box.
She makes a beautiful addition to your home. And my suggestion to you as she takes over is, whatever she does just ask yourself if you'd be happier without her. I promise you, you'll say no.
My late friend Mr. Bean, whose photo you see here, was a 22 pound Egyptian cat who loved to pull my books from their shelves and let them fall to the floor. Sometimes I would get upset with him, but I would throw all my books all over my apartment just to have him with me just one more day.
One of the principles of catness: "If I fits, I sits."
I have a picture taken many years ago of our 12 pound cat Milo spilling out over all sides of an 8 pound capacity Easter basket. Maybe just as well you don't allow attachments....
For a scholarly analysis of the matter, see Livescience.com, 2/28/22, "Why Do Cats Love Boxes So Much?".The article also has a link to a piece in Applied Animal Behavioural Science, Vol 240, July 2021, entitled "If It Fits, I Sits". Once again, a manifestation of that universal entity, THECAT. My cats particularly love shoeboxes, although one is a bit tubby and tends to bulge over the sides.
Taaa-daaa! The counter-box compromise!
Well done. Now I have a cat who likes to sleep in hanging fruit basket.

Cats, it seems, are very much like children. They get more use out of an empty box than a box full of toys. ❤️
cats are superior beings. she doesn't want to miss out on the action
You could say a CATastrophe has been avoided :)
Excellent development! Now she can watch what you're doing, correct you when you slip up, and keep track of what is taking place with all HER things!

A happy Newsletter.I have been trying to learn Ukrainian. One of their sayings is "Дім там де кіт." Home is where the cat is.
What a wonderful accommodation. I love this story. Thank you for sharing this with your exhausted readers. We all deserve a break today.
Now that you’ve tackled this problem, can you pull out your Superman costume and save the world?
Now you can get Tazzy a blanket for her cuddly cardboard!
Cats are smarter than us. I’d say smarter than MTG but that would be an affront to Tazzy’s superior intelligence! 😉
Perfect, it was just a matter of time before a stress relieving solution presented itself to the adults in the room, 👍🏼
Mine has his own place setting on the breakfast bar. It's worked out pretty well.
