Let me just say, Trump’s so-called “press conference” in Bedminster, New Jersey, was very, very hard to get through. I made it to the hour and fifteen-minute mark, and then my head jerked up from my chest. I had fallen asleep.
I know you feel obligated to shovel this crap, but it can't be healthy. We know his whole blah, blah, blah. We do appreciate your effort and feel your pain. Take care of yourself man.
I agree with Mark. Appreciate your effort, and I suppose it’s good to be reminded occasionally of Trump’s demented idiocy, but the less I see and hear him, the better.
I tried to watch the whole thing, reverting to my adolescent sense that one needs to be open to all kinds of experiences, etc....even terrible ones. you know...the whole "what doesn't kill you makes you stronger, but after an hour, I figured I could easily do without the rest of it. this guy's brain is broken. I revel in his incapacities and cognitive breakdown(s), but that hour was more than enough for a very long time. he can't actually answer questions. even those ridiculously softball ones. and not a single "journalist" tried to follow up, or point out that he was doing a lot of "misspeaking" and being "hyperbolic"...those terms that places like the NYT et al like to use instead of "lies."
if there's no fact-checking on those debates, it's gonna be crazy. Kamala will have facts and be focused and he'll drone on as the "moderators" refuse to moderate.
You realize what he's doing, right? He's blurting out exactly what's going through his mind every second. Unfortunately, he's unable to edit himself so we're hearing his stream of conscious thoughts, if you can call them that. What a godawful mess the inside of his head is.
But then, why does he need a notebook to remind him? You’d think by now he had the script memorized. The fact that he hasn’t shows what a mess his mind really is.
The debates are gonna be a disaster for both Trump and Vance.
Just let me state the obvious: He is so freaking out of touch with the real world!
Gotta love the image of those perishables (milk, sausages, etc) sitting in the sun while he rambled on and on, when there are people who could have actually benefited from having that food on their tables at their homes … which are not located in a luxury golf club that few can afford admittance to!
(Hope he chokes on the Cheerios he wanted to take back to his “cottage”.)
Perhaps the good news from you watching it was a brief nap. I can picture the Energizer Bunny <clink clink> and call me an easily amused person, but I chuckled along each time. Gosh, this old, washed-up psycho is way past his "use-by" date.
As rancid as the perishables that were sitting out in the sun beside him. Probably thought somewhere in his vermin infested brain that he was earning points by saying he wanted the Cheerios. As if.
I just read The NY Times summary of that press conference (6:37 MDT). You would think it was a normal press conference with the former president discussing his economic and energy plans. They did briefly say he veered off topic and didn’t seem to follow the notes in his binder. But if I didn’t know better I would think it was a pretty coherent presentation.
Oh, they did lead with the former guy saying he had every right to level personal criticisms at VP Harris, and they repeated that in the story. No rebuttal, nothing about this is not the right way to campaign. Nothing. Disgusting.
I canceled my subscription right away after they criticized Biden after the first debate as it's like they were on Trump's side! They asked me why I was canceling and I told them honestly!
I did the same. And they haven’t solicited me to renew my subscription. Not once. Other people who cancelled say they have had offers to resubscribe at reduced rates. Nada. Silence. Just as well. I’m impervious to any offer they might make.
I was almost in tears when I called to cancel my subscription. I told them that I did not care for their editorial board’s obvious slant against Biden. I am much happier without it.
They give different rates to many diverse groups. I have unsubscribed but know they are cutting edge in their procurement and retention of subscribers.
Hey, NYT just doesn't think defending democracy is their job. However the Times managerial staff does seem to think that getting Trump elected IS their job, which is just weird. Really weird.
I caught that too. As usual, he doesn’t realize what he’s saying. And, as usual, he’ll deny he ever said it. Pretty soon he’ll say he’s never heard of Kamala Harris, and mean it.
Love your penultimate paragraph. As for tampons in boys' bathrooms:
" If Your Time is short
In 2023, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz signed a law that requires schools provide access to menstrual products in bathrooms regularly used by students in grades 4 to 12.
The law does not distinguish by sex or gender, saying period products "must be available to all menstruating students."
A legal expert from Period Law, a group that advocates for making menstrual products free, said the bill would allow schools to provide period products in boys’ bathrooms, but it does not mandate the products be provided there. A school that provides products in girls’ rooms and all gender bathrooms, for example, would be in compliance."
"A conservative strategy to knock Minnesota Governor Tim Walz down a peg drastically backfired on Friday when it turned out the entire scheme was, actually, not true at all.
The day after Vice President Kamala Harris announced Walz as her running mate, conservatives threw their first major punch at the Midwesterner, labeling him “Tampon Tim” in reference to a 2023 Minnesota state law that conservatives criticized for providing menstrual products in school bathrooms. That included—according to the right-wing media pundits that amplified the rumor—a mandate to also put them in boys’ bathrooms.
{snip}
But as it turns out [Surprise!], no one had actually done their research before blasting the transphobic conspiracy into the world—not even a simple Google search of the law’s actual text. In reality, the wording of Minnesota’s law offers “considerable flexibility” in its implementation and doesn’t specify which bathrooms the product should be placed in, reported the Star Tribune. “That might mean making these products available for free in various locations for all who need them, such as unisex bathrooms, girls’ bathrooms, the school nurse or the front office, but not necessarily in boys’ bathrooms.”
That they were making such a horrendous fuss about the menstrual products business just shows how bizarre and misogynistic these people are. The idea that kids shouldn't have to bleed in their clothes really is not a radical notion.
Are you surprised that they turned this entire thing around? They did the same thing with the death squads, etc., etc. it’s deliberate misinformation and lies. This is what Republicans do. They all lie.
NBC showed about 15 seconds of Trump's prattling on its newscast tonight. Just enough to make Trump sound halfway intelligent. They gave about twice as much time to the arrest and charging of Matthew Perry's doctors. Guess we know what they think is important.
The Fly on Trump's left cheek was metaphor for all the shit he was peddling. Was rooting for the other ones that were buzzing his over ripe noggin' to land on his face as well.
Pence's fly-on-his-noggin while debating Kamala in 2020, now Trump's face fly.
Odd that the extreme Christians bible-thumpers haven't made the connection to what the fly represents in their belief system.
Not surprised mainstream media did not mention the fly on Trump's face and link it back to the fly on Pence's head. At the very least note Trump is a germaphobe yet stood in front of the press w/one fly on his face and scores of others buzzed around him due to displaying food in an outdoor setting. Back in 2016 Trump would go cray-cray when a fly was around. Now eight years older the Trump chit show can't go on w/o them.
As I recall he married some rich widow and moved to the Woodlands area of Winnetka; big houses with acreage. He may have moved for a better senior softball league. In any case, he was living far from any common working man.
btw, I sure miss those Sunday brunches at the Ritz-Carlton Chicago. And my parents dumped the Ambassador for the R-C when back in town.
If you were a fan of Jimmy's, so was I. He was a friend of my mother's, and I met him when I was 20. A year or so later, he was at a big do where she was, and yelled across the room, "How's ya' gawjus daughta?" Years later I was covering the Blagojevich trial, and so was he. Silberman did ring a bell. Lynne Guthman was in our gang of five friends -- another of whom was the late Cookie Kupcinet. I loved going to school there. We were still in the old mansion ...
I see too he is taking credit for the lowering of prescription drug prices even though there is a video of Biden signing the bill with no Republican support whatsoever.
Then there is his denial of knowing anything about Project 2025, while meantime two British reporters posing as relatives of a big donor secretly record two hours of video interviewing the main architect of of the plan saying he has Trump's full blessing. Well, of course he does, it would in part make every government agency directly under Trump's control including the DOJ and FBI. Also all references to global warming would be stricken from all government records, it goes on and on
I know you feel obligated to shovel this crap, but it can't be healthy. We know his whole blah, blah, blah. We do appreciate your effort and feel your pain. Take care of yourself man.

fuck this guy awreddy.
WaPo had a piece Friday morning on how cable networks handled this rally-posing-as-press-conference. Says MSNBC effectively. heeded its pundits. https://www.washingtonpost.com/style/media/2024/08/15/trump-press-conference-msnbc-cnn/
NPR and select other media are excluded from djt "press conferences."

You betcha!
good.
Truly, it must be horrifying in there.
Brain worms at work
There seems to be a lot of that going around.
My dear late grandmother, who raised 3 sons during the Depression, and always told us not to waste food, is rolling over in her grave.
When I heard Cheerios I thought I was really reading Lucian's dream about Trump.
Perhaps the good news from you watching it was a brief nap. I can picture the Energizer Bunny <clink clink> and call me an easily amused person, but I chuckled along each time. Gosh, this old, washed-up psycho is way past his "use-by" date.

Donny likes it!
He was never “useful”.

NYT wants to go out of business.
I canceled my subscription right away after they criticized Biden after the first debate as it's like they were on Trump's side! They asked me why I was canceling and I told them honestly!
Good! I said “I don’t like your politics”
I did the same and don’t regret for an instant. I hope a lot of subscribers did as well. The NYT deserves a comeuppance
I'm happy to help them by not subscribing, despite their frequent emailed pleas.
I canceled months ago and I'm STILL getting their emails pleading me to renew. Not today, not tomorrow, not ever, NYT.
Have yet to get any offers. I was more than clear about why I was cancelling.
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
THE NYT plus others like Kristof, Goldberg, and Brooks, and Gessen ought o have their heads examined. Do they want Harris to lose;it seems so.
They all want the trump tax breaks - but just don't want to be too obvious about it.
But despite their best efforts to fail the nyt just keeps adding hundreds of thousands of new subscribers every quarter—up 300,000 in the most recent.
From which country? Are bots paying for subscriptions now? Trump's people don't read or can't read words with me than two syllables
They’re giving college students a deal I suspect…
They give different rates to many diverse groups. I have unsubscribed but know they are cutting edge in their procurement and retention of subscribers.
I have the NYT app for games at $5.99 a month.
I got it of $4!! Before I cancelled completely.
What do you have against college students?
Perfect!
Hey, NYT just doesn't think defending democracy is their job. However the Times managerial staff does seem to think that getting Trump elected IS their job, which is just weird. Really weird.
"I don’t have a lot of respect for her, I don’t have a lot of respect for her intelligence, and I think she’ll be a terrible president…"
SHE'LL be? Doesn't he mean SHE'D be??
LOL - he sees it coming!
Good catch, David!
I’ll bet Kamala’s IQ is four times that of Dumbass Donny’s.
At this point I'm kinda wondering if Donny actually has much cognitive intelligence remaining.
Actually, I think her IQ is far more than 4 times that of the Bloated Yam.
I caught that too. As usual, he doesn’t realize what he’s saying. And, as usual, he’ll deny he ever said it. Pretty soon he’ll say he’s never heard of Kamala Harris, and mean it.

Thanks for doing the dirty work. Please, be cognizant of your mental/emotional health. Too much of this garbage can be harmful.
Thank you, thank you for listening to Agent Orange so we don't have to.
The Fly on Trump's left cheek was metaphor for all the shit he was peddling. Was rooting for the other ones that were buzzing his over ripe noggin' to land on his face as well.
The flys know where to find the garbage and the shit.

Re Trump's lying, can't you just hear Ann Richards' voice saying, "Poor Donald ... he can't heeelp it ..."
It's a toss up between Molly Ivins and Ann Richards as to whom I miss the most. We could really use them both right now.
And Jimmy Breslin... and Mike Royko ...
I used to have to Google in order to find Breslin's latest work.
Molly would by now would have had a few books of collected columns just dealing with Trump's many idiotic lunatic rantings.
Royko lost his edge when he moved to Winnetka.
Royko moved to Winnetka?
As I recall he married some rich widow and moved to the Woodlands area of Winnetka; big houses with acreage. He may have moved for a better senior softball league. In any case, he was living far from any common working man.
btw, I sure miss those Sunday brunches at the Ritz-Carlton Chicago. And my parents dumped the Ambassador for the R-C when back in town.
And Hunter S. Thompson and maybe Tom Wolfe
Think Jimmy could rework "The Gang Who Couldn't Shoot Straight"?

Did you go to Francis Parker in Chicago?
I did. You?
I did. 12 years. Class of ‘64. Loved it. I think I had a cousin in your class. First name Lynne.
Silberman did ring a bell. Lynne Guthman was in our gang of five friends -- another of whom was the late Cookie Kupcinet. I loved going to school there. We were still in the old mansion ...
We moved into the old school when I was a junior. I still have dreams about the classrooms

He got all those groceries at Walmart and then tried to return them. Except the Cheerios.
Oh, please, he has never been in a Walmart. Wish I could say the same about the White House.
And the sausages sitting in the sun ...
