For these Republican Senators, this will be the most important vote in their lives, whether they can see it now or not.

This is the single most important US political event in our lifetime.

[You can make a case for JFK’s assassination, but this was an attack on the entire institutional system, not just the person.]

Trump makes Nixon look like a kindergartner. As impeachments go, they’re not even in the same league.

It’s always a risk to make a prediction. But a man who deserves to be a registered sex offender dozens of times over, who is the most corrupt president in US history, who committed the single biggest internal crime in history against the USA (this Capitol attack), who is guilty of so many financial and tax law and election crimes that it is impossible to keep track, and who is a true friend and ally of Putin, cannot avoid karma forever. The train of history is going to run over Tя☭mp. It has to.

What is giving him Teflon? 74 million voters. 88 million Twitter followers. He is the voice, the idol, of everyone stuck in the old social order of racism and sexism and anti-gay values. That’s his protection. That’s his immunity. For now.

This entire theater story is, at its core, the old social order smashing US society for leaving them behind. That’s what this attack on Congress is, it’s an attack on you and me, on *us.* Those members of Congress represent us. They ARE us.

Our society is leaving Mr. Camp Auschwitz Staff behind. My wife saw the word “Staff” on the back of his T-shirt in real time on TV on Jan. 6. She’s Jewish on her mom’s side. Mr. Jew Hater and his buddies are fighting like cornered animals against social change. Stacey Plaskett. Joaquin Castro. Jamie Raskin, a Jew. Pelosi, San Francisco progressive, woman, Speaker of the House, 3rd in the presidential line of succession, behind Kamala who as VP is 2nd. Women in power. The House of Representatives, incl. these impeachment managers, is what they despise. Those pathetic people (Trumpsters, picture the “m” as a swastika) want to keep the society that puts down women, gays, anybody not white. That’s what Trump voters stand for. That’s what Trump Republicans and their Senators have in common with those rioters.

And it's even more pathetic when one considers that, beyond their white, often male, privilege, these insurrectionists haven't benefited all that much from the social order they're fighting to preserve. They're not Rockefellers or Kochs or even Federalist Society lawyers. If their idol sees them as anything more than negligible, interchangeable shock troops, I'd be very surprised.

"...white, often male, privilege..."

Yes. What people tend to misunderstand is that the women are in this for the same reason, their loyalty to an old social order that is dying out. The Christian Hallmark Channel one man one woman with children family model appeals to certain women, too, and for reasons I would have trouble understanding, perhaps because of the Macho tradition, Latinos and Latinas and other non-whites also subscribe to the old social order. You don't have to be white and male or even straight (Lindsay Graham?) to want to keep the old order intact.

"...haven't benefited all that much..."

It's The Hunger Games. The capitalist model is upside down, the workers need to be at the top and the managers at the bottom, or at least everyone at the same level, like a cooperative. The entire economic structure is badly broken and needs a complete overhaul. Having parasites at the top siphon off all the riches that belong to the front-line workers who rightfully earned them is a crime of epic proportions. And yet that model is how the world of corporations and capitalism is structured. The executives have total power, the workers are pawns and exploited and fleeced like sheep, as you suggest.

I fear we are about to witness jury nullification of the constitution by the very Senators who are sworn to defend the constitution.

I am from Savannah Ga where a famous murder case occurred (think Midnight in the Garden of good and Evil). I worked for the PD at the time. I have never forgotten what an officer said to me about the case...Rich people never go to prison.

It chills me to hear that. It kills me to hear that.

But there’s other good news for the Trump family: Atlanta isn’t very far from Palm Beach. So when Chito has to testify at trial for election tampering, it’s a short flight. And when he gets sentenced and incarcerated, his relatives won’t have to travel very far to visit him in jail.

The demographic nightmare that leads to the slow moving train wreck with plenty of willing victims aboard looking to avoid responsibility. Yep, that’s one of our two political parties who 74 million people endorsed three months ago.

It’s official. Ok, I’m jumping the gun, but not by much. The Republican Party is disintegrating. The principled ones are debating how to get back control from the racists, maybe with a new party. We might be going to a European system with multiple viable parties.

When you see the words “nativist“ and “populist,“ substitute the phrase “racist, sexist and homophobic.” Journalists are allergic to those words, but that’s what they’re talking about. The Capitol rioters are the racists, sexists, homophobes, and Jew haters who are resisting wildly a change in society that they cannot stop.

My Congressman, FL 17, has yet to admit to Trump's loss.

They are cowards afraid of a moron who now commands an army of idiots smarter than their C-in-C...are we doomed?

I don’t think so. The leftover racists and sexists are going down kicking and screaming, but they are going down. Their time has passed.

Until the GOP senators grow a set of balls this is the sad state of our political system. I hope they own this vote for the rest of their lives.

"1984" gets quoted and referred to all the time. "Catch-22" not so much. But it should.
