If this weren’t so terrifying it would be hilarious. Maybe it’s hilarifying?

Yes, that's the word: "Hilarifying." I actually feel a little hopeful now that the Trumputin camp is tottering on an internal civil war of its own making. Another word comes to mind: "weak."

Will Trump continue to side with fellow billionaires Elon and Vivek and throw his MAGA supporters under a bus when it comes to MAGA's anti-immigrant stance and economic concerns? Or will the bromance end in mutual recriminations and hatred?

Stay tuned for the upcoming season of Concepts of a Presidency.

Since Trump can’t (or an he?) run again I think his base may not matter this time around? Stay where the money is would be my guess.

“The current prevailing theory about Trump’s victory is that most Americans, irked by an unpleasant encounter with inflation, cast an anti-incumbent vote without giving much thought to the consequences of that vote for US democracy.

I don’t totally buy this whoops! theory. My sense is that, in this era of the Internet, there are millions more fascists in this country than people think, young men in particular.

And I believe that many more millions are fascinated by Trump not for his supposed business prowess but for his transparent wish to hurt others. He is an evil guy, a villain—and many Americans are excited by it. Harris and the Democrats, by contrast, are boring, boring, boring.

In this sense, the election was like a choice between four more years of church or four years of violent entertainment.

Nihilistic consumerism, as much as authoritarianism, prevailed. Of course, political science is not designed to investigate this kind of stuff. The clearest insights we have come from the realm of philosophy and literature. Hannah Arendt and Primo Levi did not rely on focus groups.”

Trump is transactional. He doesn't need his supporters or Musk et al once he is sworn in.

Trump will need the R-Congress on certain items but not as many as some think he does. And when he needs them it will be transactional under threat of being primaried.

Trumo isn't a fascist or authoritarian. Those are political terms. Trying to apply them to Trump is a square peg in a round hole. Trump only brush w/poltical ideology is the letter I as in I, I, I, me, me, me.

Trump views the nation as his just as he does w/the Trump Org. He so said WABAC at his Turnberry Scotland golf course.

Trump only knows business and that ain't saying much because real estate is a mere subset of business. That is the reason during his presser at Turnberry he likened America to a golf course. Yes, a golf course that needed updating, repair, maintenance, restoring, and PR.

Nearly 10 years of Trump yet the vast majority continue to insist the only lens to view Trump is through politics despite all evidence to the contrary. ~Remarkable~

So, those that do will continue doing what they have been doing and still expecting a different outcome. That is the history of we got him this time whether impeachments or Federal cases, SCOTUS decisions, etc. etc.

Trump plays by his rules, not those others say and write he should or must. And Trump plays a different game than others say he should and must. Nearly Ten Years After (ref. to a band) and people don't acknowledge Trump doesn't listen or dance to their music. And never will.

Well said. But Musk can blackmail Donny if things don’t go his way. Donny has surely bragged to Elmo by showing him all the important top secret documents. Either that or Elmo required the kompromat before he agreed to set the new president up for life.

Abandoning his devoted followers says to me that there will be no need of party line voters in the next presidential election because there are no plans to hold one.

Perhaps.

Musk? If Musk gets an office on the WH campus whether in the EOB or in the WH, then his influence goes beyond what I currently see it as.

Have no feel for what docs Trump may or may not have. Do know intel docs age off faster than people think and believe they do. Have no idea where the transition PDB go to and how specific they are compared to the actual ones. And have no idea how they will be created under the Trump Adm or who will have access. Intel is only that. Doesn't make it as factual as most have come to believe. It's all couched with percentages of confidence. And that is subjective.

US NATSEC "secrets" are tightly controlled. And if the Biden Adm didn't further tighten them after the Documents Case then shame on them. Takes more than a change of Adm to snap fingers to undo certain security protocols a previous Adm had in place. And doing so leaves a trail of yellow and red flags. It's what the National Archives is for.

Am not concerned about any future elections. Haven't seen anything that would put any election in jeopardy in the US. Suppose if Rick Wilson was right that everything Trump touches dies there wouldn't have been one in 2024. There wouldn't be one for me in the future because I unregistered to vote after the last one. Didn't forfeit my #1A rights by doing so. Nor any other.

Karen Simmons, I think you are on target--at least where Trump's thinking is concerned...although I have to say I don't think he has ever been overly concerned about pleasing his base. I'm betting he figures they are not only stupid but have extremely short attention spans and that he'd be able to sweet lie them back into the cult.

I'm thinking this isn't going to fly with those Reps and Senators who won in very close contests and only by Trump's endorsement or support. This has to be a real concern for them!!! Get out the popcorn...and buckle the seatbelts. This will entertaining, horrifying and ugly all at the same time!

Isn't this sort of thing called bait and switch? Get a law passed to allow the world's top engineers to fill vacant positions in corporate America that our engineers are just not qualified for. but then use that law to hire a foreign engineers but mostly to import cheap manual laborers, then lie to potential voters that you are going to deport the people taking American Jobs.

To quote from Lucian's article: "According to the Department of Labor, in 2023 alone, Trump requested and received H-B2 visas for non-skilled workers that included seven hotel desk clerks, 17 housekeeping cleaners, 53 waiters and waitresses, 24 cooks, five first-line supervisors of food preparation and serving workers, and five bartenders.

Just couldn’t find any locals in Florida to change beds, swab out toilets, check-in guests, and prepare rubber chicken dinners at Mar-a-Lago."

He doesn’t need the maggots anymore Lucian. He’s about milked them dry over the last 8 years. They are anything but a highly paid cohort, they are more like an uneducated mob who is watching technology that they disdained learning take over the landscape that they want to work in. In the marketplace your skills directly impact your income, no skills = here’s a broom. All of this leads me to think that he’s going to follow the money, it is after all the main reason he’s not going to prison. I could be wrong and he may get off on the grift enough to keep it going, but muck, who got him elected with the lint in his pocket, is the new guy in town, and I can guarantee that he has his attention. That may be better for the nation if it helps prevent massive deportations, since that’s a big maggot issue and they are not smart enough to put together what they will be paying for eggs after the people who are critical to our food supply are deported. Where it could be worse for the nation is what muck wants to do with our economy which he sees as free money if he can redirect it, don’t forget that he can buy all of the accomplices he needs. Either way we are in for a bumpy ride, whether our democracy can survive is another matter. 🤷‍♂️🤬

Oh, Lucian, you had me with the swamp weasels. Since I've avoided actual swamps and the weasals in them, it was off to Wikipedia, where I learned that the long-tailed weasel (Neogale frenata) lives up to your use of it as a descriptor for the whole lot: "The long-tailed weasel has well-developed anal scent glands, which produce a strong and musky odour. Analysis of a dichloromethane extract of the anal gland secretion showed it contained 2,2-dimethylthietane, 2,4-dimethylthietane, 2,3-dimethylthietane, 2-propylthietane, 3,3-dimethyl-1,2-dithiolane, 3-ethyl-1,2-dithiolane, indole and 2-aminoacetophenone."

The only reason I copied and pasted the second sentence is for those gazillion times in the next years when we'll see the ass-kissers on Fox "news," NewsMax and OAN(anism), running their tongues around MAGA and billionaire buttocks. Some consolation, remembering those are the chemicals right-wing media syco/psycho-phants will be ingesting through mouth and nose.
