Her district includes Tallulah Gorge, where Deliverance was filmed. I've driven thru there for 40 years on way to NC vacation home. Its as backwards Hillbilly as you could imagine. Walmart is there. And " banjo boy" Billy Redden works there
Thank you so much, Mike, I didn’t know this. I looked up the district, it’s GA-14, the very northwest corner of Georgia, with Alabama to the west and Tennessee to the north, the Chattanooga suburbs. But I didn’t know about Deliverance. It sure makes you think.
Fwiw, Marjorie Taylor Greene doesn't seem to be a redneck by any stretch of the imagination. She has a bachelor's in business administration, and she and her husband run a construction company that her father founded. When she was elected, she didn't live in the rural district that elected her (where the voters may now be warier of urban imports?), though apparently she's now bought property there.
... and her urban invasion of a rural district caught the long-time establishment Republicans totally off-guard, never saw her coming, destroyed quite handily in the primaries. Proceeded to run Democratic opposition clean out of the race (and literally out of the state) in the general. A typically corrupt and filthy rich Republican with all that Q-anon crazy on top just for good measure. Truly contemptible human being very much in the mold of *Rump himself.
I hope you're correct in predicting they're more wary of urban imports now. Many expressed great surprise when her Q-craziness was exposed locally. She did not advertise that side of herself in her campaign, at least not locally. Her public campaign was gun-nut and garden variety Trump supporter. By and large the rednecks around here did not know of Q-anon's existence previous to Jan.6
“We’ve reached the point in America where people no longer claim purchase over their own lives. They are, like Ms. Greene, mere sheep being herded by far more clever border collies like Donald Trump into pens held open by Fox News and OANN Network and NewsMax, where they are force-fed like geese by QAnon, Breitbart, the Daily Caller, RedsState and Epoch Times and similar right-wing outlets.”
It is official. The Republican Party is disintegrating...
The splintering of the GOP has erupted into open warfare.
Not long ago, we saw the unprecedented appearance of one, then two, then eventually at last count at least seven organizations actively opposing their own candidate for President, among them Lincoln Project, 43 Alumni for Biden (ex Bush Administration officials), Republican Voters Against Trump, Right Side PAC, and in the final days even a political action outfit founded by officials from Trump's own administration, REPAIR.
Now we have people who are guzzling pitchers of Kool-Aid appearing in Congress, among them the Kool-Aid Queen herself, the star in Lucian's article.
The WaPo article link tells us most of what we need to know about the future of the Republican Party. This week's top news stories are just the tip of the iceberg of what is in store.
Some eye-catching excerpts:
[begin quotes]
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) has taken to identifying home state compatriot McCarthy as “Q-CA,” and the Democratic campaign arm has begun funding misleading campaign spots tying Republican members to the conspiracy theorists and extremists.
“You can do QAnon, and you can do swing districts, but you can’t do both,” House Democratic campaign chairman Sean Patrick Maloney (D-N.Y.) said. Republicans, he argued, are trying to “serve two masters”: “One of them is crazy and dangerous, and the other is the Chamber of Commerce.”
“If any [Republican] candidate for the House or Senate are explaining Jewish space lasers next fall, we have no hope for recapturing either majority,” quipped one prominent Republican campaign strategist.

Republicans worry their big tent will mean big problems in 2022 elections
The GOP is not all insane, but a kind of "critical mass" has been reached with Qanon in recent days. Alcoholics go to Rehab. Where do political parties go? Oblivion like the Know Nothings?
The whole GOP needs a 12-step program, but for all their ranting about God I'm pretty sure they'll never get to the first step: "We admitted we were powerless over [Trumpism] -- that our lives had become unmanageable." OK, I changed a word in there, but the principle does apply. ;-)
Thank you TC! I am engaged in a back burner investigation of the history of the Republican party. This post of yours helps take it off the back burner and adds helpful insight. Looking at the election that made Lincoln president, I noticed that the Southern Democrats were a distinct party. Separate unto themselves. I wonder if The Southern Democratic Party merged quietly at some point with the Democratic Party. I know the Southern Democrats were the party of the KKK after the Civil War. I also know that it was LBJ and the Voting Rights Act that alienated them and caused them to flock to the Republican Party. I believe it was LBJ himself who said something to the effect that the South was lost to the Democrats for at least a generation. Make that 50 years.

Tallulah Gorge is actually in Northeast Georgia in another very rural district in Georgia, but not the 14th.
Thank you for that correction Robert. I have no idea where Tallulah Gorge is. I believed Mike Altee.

Only about 5% of the district is Chattanooga suburbs, very rural outside that small area.

It’s utter insanity of course - them not you ( well... 😜)
"Redneck goose liver" deserves a prize all by itself. Shame Walter Becker died before he could write a song about it.
Perfect. Walter would have gotten it.

There is so mighty fine writing in this piece.
“Some mighty fine writing,” I meant.

What Steve said. 🏆🏆
Central Casting knew Trump was toast, sent over MTG to fill the loon gap.
Some seriously good descriptions here. BZ!

When Lucian gets 10,000 subscribers, Susanna, this post gets 100 likes at least. 😆❤️😆❤️
Has anybody registered that the U.S. Capitol attack was a redneck riot run by racists and right-wing Russia-funded Republicans raking in roubles?
Rrrrrrrr. . . 😡
