CORRECTION: Sidney Powell was not indicted by Jack Smith in Washington D.C., but may be called as a witness against Trump in that case. Corrected in the text of the column. H/T Stu Shapiro.

I was wondering about that myself...and doesn't her status as an "unindicted co-conspirator" suggest that at some point in the future, she COULD be indicted in the Washington case?

I really don’t care if the Kraken Klan of underlings actually go to jail as long as they wind up paying big money and help send the head moron to a permanent home in perfidy.

She's not paying big man net though and I do want her in prison. She's a slime ball traitor.

Sorry! That was "not paying big money" -- auto spell strikes again. And yes, good news but she's getting off way too lightly. She tried to overturn an election for god's sake!

I'm afraid we're all going to be disappointed because she is getting 6 years probation and some things to do. Now, I can't speak for her but she does know prison could be in the picture if she messes up and breaks any of the conditions of her probation. And she is supposed to testify against all those other idiots who were involved in this. Meanwhile, off camera more and more, Giuliani is broke and circling the financial drain. His digs are going to be sold one way or another and he's not likely to wind up with much in his pocket and where shall he live in New York as a pauper. Some of this is just so delicious I might need to go giggle in the corner a bit.

This is excellent news. Agent Orange, baby man, wannabe Supreme Dear Leader, who spent his entire time while desecrating the Oval Office insisting the everyone around him deliver endless nauseating flattery and pledge undying loyalty, is now learning--shocking!--that every single one of them is just like him: looking out only for themselves, and happy to throw him under the bus.

And there's a whole convoy of buses. Somebody hand him a diaper to cry on.

Lucian, her fine seems so low, given the enormity of her treasonous actions! Six years probation is the “price” we have to pay for her flipping on dump and the others. How comforting to know she cannot say “My Bad” in one jurisdiction and then say “I didn’t do that” in another. What about her law license??? I hope she never can practice law anywhere again. Thanks for the great reporting. And, yes Deborah, it is wonderful Gym The Groomer backed out. What a crew!

Usually, when prosecutors make request probation only and minimal fines, it's because the defendant has some juicy goods to share. Let's hope she releases the kraken on the orangutan. Clash of the Sad Titans. Pass the popcorn!

Norris Blaxall covers part of the reasoning, Powell cut a deal, now she can squeal and squeal for real!

I will add that every single court appearance or lawsuit she ever files will be under heightened scrutiny from the bench, to see if Krackpot Kraken Powell has or has not experienced any form of relevant metanoia - sincere remorse for blatantly violating the most basic code of professional ethics all attorneys (and indeed, anyone with a law degree) is expected to have assimilated and follow, instead of the path she took according to the indictments.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metanoia

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metanoia_(psychology)

Metanoia (from the Greek μετάνοια, metanoia, "changing one's mind") has been used in psychology since at least the time of American philosopher/psychologist William James to describe a process of fundamental change in the human personality.[1]

The term derives from the Ancient Greek words μετά (metá) (meaning "beyond" or "after") and νόος (noeō) (meaning "perception" or "understanding" or "mind"), and takes on different meanings in different contexts.

Developments

William James used the term metanoia to refer to a fundamental and stable change in an individual's life-orientation.[1] Carl Gustav Jung developed the usage to indicate a spontaneous attempt of the psyche to heal itself of unbearable conflict by melting down and then being reborn in a more adaptive form – a form of self healing often associated with the mid-life crisis and psychotic breakdown, which can be viewed as a potentially productive process.[2] Jung considered that psychotic episodes in particular could be understood as an existential crisis which might be an attempt at self-reparation: in such instances metanoia could represent a shift in the balance of the personality away from the persona towards the shadow and the self.[3] *******

Richard, what a wealth of new knowledge you have provided! I will most likely never use metanoia in a sentence, but I loved your explanation and history of the term. Thank you!

Expand full comment

Using in a sentence difficult. As a song lyric rhyme, even more problematic. (Channeling my inner Cole Porter and Larry Hart.) Of course, using "metatonia" by itself, as a more-than-adequate substitute for Handel's "Hallelujah" works.

Metatonia! Metatonia! Metatonia!

For the D.A. magnificent, triumphs!

Metatonia! Metatonia!

A little sacrilegious, to be sure, but ever since Defendant Donny held up that prop Bible, anything (Anyone) is fair game. PS: the betting pool on how many times Defendant Donny has been to church on a Sunday since leaving the White House has been closed, since 100% of the bettors chose 0 (zero).

Really, well doesn't surprise me you were at Mac, nor were admitted to what I take to be Yale, or that it seems in retrospect maybe you'd have preferred to remain, still, it's just impossible to really really really know if what you chose was the right choice.

I ended up finishing my undergrad philosophy begun at Mac at the U-Twin Cities, then was admitted to grad school there / here in philosophy, then (arguably a "mistake" but same applies to me as to you) to law school, graduated from what is now Mitchell-Hamline.

Doesn't trying to throw an election quality as some flavor of treason? Why aren't these traitors getting punished? Do they all have naked photos of each other or what?

Expand full comment

Marcia....probably😹

Expand full comment

Q. Doesn't trying to throw an election quality as some flavor of treason?

A. Treason is legal word that is sharply defined. What occurred has a far better word in the English language that isn't first and foremost a legal word, betrayal. The word is broad another to cover many transgressions (of an oath, vow or own word) of many types including its most common usage, cheating.

Q. Why aren't these traitors getting punished?

A. Justice comes in many forms. The legal system is but one of many.

Q. Do they all have naked photos of each other or what?

A. You might be on to something even if it's not nudes.

Powell needs to be disbarred and after she testifies against her co-conspirators, never be heard from again.

Expand full comment

My guess is her disbarment is a done deal.

Expand full comment

Alternatively, they may have hammered out a deal where that outcome depends on her absolute adherence to a "Spilling ALL the Beans" clause, if Powell tries to get cute, the prosecutors recommend to the relevant legal review board she be disbarred, if not, she's on probation for years under penalty for losing her license to practice law (and more) if there are further crimes and misdemeanors.

This may be the answer. As I understand it, she does not automatically lose her license if she is useful to DA Willis, and they believe she has not withheld anything.
