100%. Trumpism long preceded Trump. Trump couldn't organize his way out of a paper bag, but he's demonstrated his ability to touch match to tinder and set off a conflagration. If you, like me, were around, adult, and reasonably sentient for Watergate and the fall of Spiro Agnew, I still suggest that you listen to Rachel Maddow's podcast "Bag Man" or read the book that expands on it. In retrospect it's so clear that Agnew was the forerunner of Sarah Palin and Donald Trump -- the id, if you will, of the Republican Party. The id that is now running the show.

We can't take a breather. We can learn from Stacey Abrams and the Fair Fight activists in Georgia, and from everyone across the country who's standing up to voter suppression. We can remember that "fight" is not a dirty word -- not if your goals are just and your strategy inclusive and far-seeing. We outnumber them and they know it. Fight hard, and fear not. The stakes could not be much higher.

Mr. Truscott. I read your analysis comparing Germany's fascination with Hitler and Nazism and comparing it to Trumpsism. I have long held the same beliefs but you expressed it far better than I could. I have already passed it on to several friends.

We are nearly of the same age. I just celebrated my 80th birthday and never have I ever been so concerned about the fate of our nation for my two daughters and grandson. Fascism is alive and well and the Republican Party is now its official home. As a one time Republican who left the party when Reagan began to sell his snake oil I am ashamed to have said I ever was one. Now I work for and contribute to Democrats exclusively.

Keep up the writing and informing . We need more like you.

Thanks Robert. I wasn't alive when Hitler was, but I was exposed to his immediate aftermath and I've never forgotten it. His descendants were almost as frightening as he was.

I hear ya, MaryB, but have you ever sung in a chorus? Individual singers can catch their breath here and there, but the chorus itself keeps moving forward.

The right seems far more mean spirited and more wiling to "fight" with pepper spray and baseball bats. And showing up with rifles at State Capitals is a tad rude and intimidating. What to do - I am running low on ideas. Will Proud Boys cool down and take Yoga Classes maybe painting landscapes? Will Trump give more red meat? Will we see more bloodshed?

My father told me a long time ago that once you run out of cheeks to turn all you can do is fight.

I wish we could attribute it all to "meth." A poll of Republicans found that one out of four believes that the election was stolen. Though believers may not take guns and storm a Statehouse after Trump's order to "liberate," they support the crazies who do. They support anything connected to Trump, though they may say they don't "like" him and that he "embarrasses" them. They can and do write checks in private. Asked how they felt about Trump during his four turbulent years in office, they said they liked his "policies," meaning deregulation, tax cuts for the rich, and restrictions against immigration. One Republican who had been part of administrations since Reagan, told me he never watched Trump rallies nor read his Tweets. "Plausible deniability," I answered. Never underestimate the hedge fund types and supremely wealthy behind the gun toters.

No problem. There will be no vacation for that corrupt asshole, either; he's gonna need his own law firm to keep his litigation schedule straight, and in my experience only ex-wives and architects can spend someone else's money as fast as lawyers can. Bankruptch no. seven is visible in the distance.

Drove by a house with a Trump 2024 banner today in DeSantistan, i.e., Florida.

I say humiliate him non-stop...he is a loser who cost his party the White House, the Senate and the House of Representatives.
