This is the way Florida is using its attack on "woke" to whitewash Civil Rights history

The first version is the way the history of the incident that gave birth to the Montgomery bus boycott is taught now. The second version revises the story by removing “African American” and “white” and the fact of her arrest. In the third proposed version, all references to race are gone, along with the facts about the law she broke and that she was arrested.

DeSantis wants kids to be taught what amounts to the Tucker Carlson version of the Civil Rights struggle: Rosa Parks was just making a tourist visit in Montgomery. There was a misunderstanding about seats on the bus. Nothing bad happened.

They don’t want the truth about segregation to be taught in Florida because it hurts the feelings of white people to be exposed to such evil. This is the way DeSantis wants to educate Florida children, by lying about the past and pointing the way to a brighter future with him in control. Rosa Parks wasn’t a Civil Rights hero. She was just a woman who “did what she believed was right.”

DeSantis wants to be the one who tells children and adults in Florida what is right and what is wrong. This is the way autocrats point the way to fascism.
