That’s the news from NE Pennsylvania, Northern New Jersey, and South Central New York. A gigantic tree fell on a major power line supplying substations in this entire region causing a blackout that began about 11:00 last night and has lasted all day today — up until about 5 p.m., anyway.
I’ve got a Jackery battery back-up with two solar panels to recharge it, but the sun just came out about an hour ago, so we’re down to about 30 percent power running the refrigerator and the wifi, which will enable me to get this post out before I turn it off to conserve the Jackery battery.
I was briefly and blessedly in our airconditioned car a few minutes ago, going to the Brooklyn Boy for some prepared Italian take-out to heat up on the stove tonight — gas, so its still working — and heard a brief snatch of MSNBC on my Syrius/XM satellite radio, and it sounds like there’s some action on the Defendant Trump front this afternoon. The name of the odious Aileen Cannon was briefly mentioned, along with something I didn’t have time to get into about target letters and how they beget proffer agreements, but we covered that with Giuliani recently, so I’m going to wait for updates tomorrow morning before I get into anything in detail.
Meanwhile, we sweat in the dead, humid air, Tracy and the cats and and Ruby and I. Until tomorrow then…
I'm so sorry for you! I know the pain of being without power for 6 days during a heatwave. After you've played every song you ever knew on the piano and tried to read by oil lamplight there's nothing to do but go to bed and sweat. After our siege, I swore I'd buy a crank up Victrola so we could at least have tunes as we sat on the porch trying to catch a breeze. Heck, we'd probably attract neighbors to dance on the sidewalk! On a serious note, this just makes you realize how vulnerable and close to the bone our aging power grid system in the U. S. is to catastrophic weather events and sabotage, both physical and from hackers. Sometimes I feel we're just whistling past the graveyard. Hang in there.
I hope you and Tracy keep cool tonight, literally.I am thinking that there will be no area in this country that won’t be affected by some weather “ event “eventually.I live in north central Ohio and so far , we haven’t had a bad thing happen here weather-wise yet."Yet" is the big word here because the way Mother Nature is feeling, she is out for revenge from all of the crappy disrespectful treatment that she has gotten from man and woman-kind lo these many years. I don’t blame her an iota.
