A NY jury affirmed what many of us who volunteered for Hillary Clinton in 2016 suspected: DJT committed crimes to win that election

Look who's going to get 'locked up' now!

Trump...scum...no news here.

While it is a given that Trump will appeal, this time the situation is different. For one thing, he's going against a state justice department, not an individual seeking redress. And, to mention the obvious, this is a state matter, not federal. What I am most happy about is that it was a conviction on all counts, thus not leaving a glimmer of wiggle room for him. Finally, I have to laugh over the tawdry fact that this conviction revolved around him having an assignation with a porn star. Sweet Baby Jesus!

Expand full comment

Yes if you look at the facts - from the moment he came upon Ms Daniels on the golf course and invited her to “dinner” - you have a story that most women, and unfortunately not enough men, find repugnant at various levels, including his bathrobe appearance and immediate request for sex. But this is all okay to his supporters,

who think that maybe it’s cool, and the concealment from voters (not his wife), is understandable and excusable. Go figure.

Expand full comment

I wonder if Melania's pre-nup has an escape clause for felony conviction. His supporters may think it's cool because he hooked up with a porn star, but a very public Melexit to Slovenia may well give them pause.

Expand full comment

I doubt she'd want to give up her luxurious USA lifestyle. And she'd never leave Barron behind.

Expand full comment

They would mock Melania, there isn't enough synaptic plasticity engaged to refer to a "pause," reflective consciousness would have to be available to them, instead of something more like especially dim-witted fruit flies.

Expand full comment

Yes, and I do not think the NY State Appeals Court will grant him an appeal. “You do the crime, you gotta serve the time”.

Expand full comment

His grounds for appeal would be “witch hunt”, again? Or maybe that no other US president has been prosecuted? Or, Trump should be above the law because “everybody” wants him to save the country from democracy.

Expand full comment

Any attorney filing appeals like that risks immediate sanctions from the bench.

Expand full comment

Regardless, he's the type of person who refuses to accept an answer that doesn't please him. And, since he has so many people willing to give him money, I could see him dragging this through every level of the appellate system and even attempt to take it to the Supreme Court.

Expand full comment

You have an imaginary NY State legal system in mind, though - this would get slapped down and even risks havingg any attorneys filing insulting paralogical bilge on specious grounds risking sanctions.

He's better off campaigning to his mesmerized mass meetings.

“his mesmerized mass meetings” nice alliteration!

I wish it didn't so accurately convey the Hitlerian connotations, damn it!

I marvel at the egocentric lack of awareness to a pathological point. How deeply unlucky you would be to be his son and how misguided to the point of misfortune to be his wife.

The link to election tampering is where the appeal could attack, since paying for silence is not illegal.

Seems like a perfect result!

Your last laugh is also mine. It seems fitting, doesn't it?

Except it was no "assignation," but rather a coerced sexual encounter, with Trump's hulking bodyguard stationed outside the Lake Tahoe hotel room!

Never assume a snake is dead and drop your guard. A Trump second term is still a very real and viable threat. Now is the time to go even harder at defeating him, IMO.

Expand full comment

I agree. This is no time to declare victory. Letting down our guard now would be a grave mistake. We still need to convince everyone we can that voting against the orange traitor is the only way to preserve freedom for themselves and their family, and preserve this fragile Democracy.

We should not seek only his defeat but overwhelming repudiation and thereby humiliation, to destroy what is left of his malformed and maleficent ego.

When the Stormy story first broke years ago I said that would be the beginning of the end. I said women would be his downfall. When EJean won once, twice, I said that was the end of the beginning (thanks, Winnie), I was sure of it. And here we are.

Gentlemen, women will save the Union.

I certainly hope so, Auntie. If women across the country remember the Extreme Court's Roe v Wade decision and get out the vote, the Dumpster will find himself a 2-time loser, at least politically. And I hope E. Jean's attorney will run the Dumpster through ANOTHER trial for defamation so he ends up paying even MORE $$$.

Well, in fairness, HE won’t be paying anything. It seems that since the RNC is now a wholly-owned subsidiary of Yamster International, the counry’s Republicans will be paying for their collective sins in foisting him upon us in the first place. This will be fun to watch.

With 37 countries refusing to admit felons, what are his most attractive options?

Saudi Arabia, Russia, Hungary.

He'd become like the sad soul in "The Man Without a Country." Who'd want him? The dictators he worships only are interested in him insofar as he holds/held power in the USA. Without that, he's a pathetic nobody of zero use to them and an actual liability.

It is great that he was convicted on all counts.

Washington Post website headline: Trump guilty on all counts

New York Times website headline: TRUMP GUILTY ON ALL COUNTS

If he'd been convicted on less than all 34 counts, he'd still be a felon, but it wouldn't have the same impact.

Expand full comment

Good news travels fast-I just got a phone call from my brother's other half, and the first thing she said was "Guilty on 34 counts!" and we both celebrated over the phone.

I should mention that she lives 20 miles outside of Fairbanks AK and it's about 4 pm there.

If she knows about it, everyone in the US does, and most of them are as happy as we both are.

This is the day everyone should remember-the first (and only one) former POTUS to become a convicted criminal.

And to think there are (hopefully) 4 more trials to go.

Now Jack Smith has the reason to get Cannon kicked off the other case. I hope he does.

Because it's long overdue and this is just the first one!

Cannon has got to go!

Mary, the classified documents case is the one I REALLY want to see get going. That is the one that would put that slime ball in prison for a VERY long time. It's also the single most egregious example of theft of sensitive classified documents I've ever seen. He deserves maximum time in the slammer for this.

Expand full comment

Likewise, I want to see that case happen, and the sheer incompetence/nincompoopery/damn near treason that is going on turns my stomach.

Every time I hear of whatever that nincompoop of a judge has done I start internally screaming because I know what Trump did was beyond redemption.

What Jack Smith must be doing to keep from throttling the bitch every time she does anything to screw the case up, I have no idea, but I do wonder if he still does marathons..because instead of drinking himself under the table (as he has every right to do) he works out his frustrations in a more acceptable way. Of course we won't ask what the training dummy in his basement that he surely has looks like.

Expand full comment

How can a felon get elected if felons can’t vote?

Expand full comment

The Constitution does not mention that felons can’t run or serve. The only requirements are being a natural born citizen, have lived in the US for at least 14 years and be at least 35 years old.

Expand full comment

Yes but many if not most states restrict felons’ ability to vote and also to hold jobs of various kinds. Can you apply to be president as a convicted felon and not be disqualified for the same reason that felons are disqualified for far lesser work?

Expand full comment

Apparently so. Trump can be and still is a candidate. And it’s possible the USA could have a felon, convicted on 34 counts, as president. An upside down world.

Expand full comment

Under New York State law, he can vote unless he is in prison. https://www.nyclu.org/resources/know-your-rights/voting-criminal-record

He can’t vote in NY, because his legal residence is FL. He might be able to vote in FL if the crimes for which he was convicted would not disqualify him if they were committed and prosecuted in FL. I’m sure we’ll be hearing more about this.

You're right. An article states, "it's still likely he can vote — and vote for himself — in Florida this fall." Florida "defers to other state laws when it comes to disenfranchising voters who are tried and convicted elsewhere."

Here’s what bugs me about how ‘left’ media is covering Trump. We jump on his latest faux pas, miscue, misogynist, racist, or hitler-ist rant. Trumpers don’t care. It’s just ‘Trump being Trump.’ Right media ignores it all. Even now Fox, Newsmax and the rest are treating the verdict like another miscarriage of justice behind a long list of wrongs perpetrated by the Biden Crime Family. Until/unless we can somehow break into the news cycle with something earth shattering (this isn’t it), it will continue like business as usual.

Well Arizona, where republicans are the only problem we can't solve have begun to weigh in...

U.S. Rep. Paul Gosar, R-Ariz., posted a terse message on social media: “Justice is lost.”

U.S. Rep. Andy Biggs, R-Ariz., called the process a witch hunt in all capital letters in a tweet following the verdict. “The Left has weaponized our justice system against Donald Trump. This trial was rigged from the start. I stand with President Trump!” he wrote.

Arizona House Speaker Ben Toma, R-Glendale, who is running for Congress, called it “one of the darkest days in American political history.”

Kari Lake, a long-time Trump supporter and Republican candidate for senate in Arizona, released a statement following what Lake called "the jury's verdict in the New York sham prosecution."

“We just witnessed the most egregious example of election interference and an outright mockery of the rule of law in the 246-year history of our Republic," Lake said in the statement. "This entire process right down to the verdict itself has been nothing but a shameful political stunt."

I read an opinion today that basically said MAGA is the biggest and most dangerous Cult in American history. Hard not to agree when you read stuff like this.

Shitweasels will keep foolishly poking their heads up out of the trenches.

Likewise, my Senator, Susan Collins, showed her true colors of yellow all for everyone to see.

"It is fundamental to our American system of justice that the government prosecutes cases because of alleged criminal conduct regardless of who the defendant happens to be. In this case the opposite has happened. The district attorney, who campaigned on a promise to prosecute Donald Trump, brought these charges precisely because of who the defendant was rather than because of any specified criminal conduct. The political underpinnings of this case further blur the lines between the judicial system and the electoral system, and this verdict likely will be the subject of a protracted appeals process."

She's sold her soul and gotten a noodle to replace it with. Margaret Chase Smith should be spinning in her grave.

In my mind there has never been any doubt that Trump is 'dirty'; guilty of sex crimes, embezzlement from his own companies, tax fraud, and probably other crimes as yet unspecified. But I don't think that matters to 'the American Voters.' Remember the words of P.T. Barnum (paraphrased) 'No one ever went broke under estimating the intelligence of the American Public.' I'm not sure that people care whether he did what he has been found guilty of. Remember the skit by Dave Chapel; people are charmed by Trump saying that the 'System' is rigged and he knows because he takes advantage of how the system is rigged. We shall see what we shall see. I would not be surprised if there was a backlash to the conviction and an increase in Trump's popularity. Where is H. L. Mencken now that we need him?

I’ve been trying to track Trump’s comments since the verdict was announced. I wonder how long we need to wait until Trump turns on his own lawyers. It’s not inconceivable that they promised him an acquittal or at least a hung jury. Trump is totally unforgiving when his sycophants don’t deliver on their promises. I also worry about the possibility of harm to the jurors if somehow Trump’s people can identify them. I read somewhere that Stormy Daniels wore a bulletproof vest as she travelled to and from the courthouse. I worry that the jurors will have to constantly look over their shoulder. Merchan has received countless death threats. It will be tragic if the jurors have to deal with the same thing.

Expand full comment

Good point that must have been in the minds of a number of the jurors as they came to their very brave unanimous decision.
