Virginia Senator Tim Kaine has demanded that the Army produce the report detailing what was done to its Arlington employee. Time for the Senate to open an investigation. Trump should also be charged with violations of Federal law, and is probably in violation of his bail agreements. Time to arrest and jail this pig.

founding

Agreed, this should be thoroughly investigated and, hopefully, prosecuted!

Expand full comment

And as usual the DOJ is nowhere to be seen. Garland could prosecute Trump for violating Federal law with respect to Arlington, but he won't. Harris must fire Garland and give us a real AG who will go after Trump's enablers and the 147 members of Congress who were in on the coup.

Expand full comment

I am sure a Harris AG will be thoroughly punitive against Trump. The one thing Trump said that makes sense is that Biden never fires anyone. Garland should have been gone months ago.

Expand full comment

Garland should never have been AG. Biden's absolute worst appointment and one reason why I am not particularly sorry to have Biden gone. The failure to put pressure on to get rid of Louis DeJoy is another.

Expand full comment

I always assumed that Biden appointed Garland as sort of a consolation gesture for Turtle the Mitch having stolen the S.Ct. seat from him. He's certainly ill-suited for the job, just imagine if Jack Smith had been the AG instead.

Expand full comment

DeJoy must go!

Expand full comment

Biden has never displayed any interest in finding a way to get rid of DeJoy. Biden has also never displayed any real interest in reproductive rights or voting rights. Thank the Goddess for Kamala!

Expand full comment

Garland is the best AG in this country's history. He has handled every investigation with due dilligence and has not allowed the opinions of people who have no idea what they are talking about to influence him. Do you know if the DOJ can even proceed if the victim doesn't want to file a complaint? And how would you even know if the DOJ is investigating this or not?

Expand full comment

Trump clearly violated Federal law by his outrageous stunt at Arlington. The DOJ could go after him without having to involve the woman who was assaulted.

Biden is not gone and Garland is still AG, hoping to Hell that Jack Smith isn't starting more "trouble."

Why should Garland have been gone in your opinion?

He made no attempt to prosecute Trump until the J6 Committee shamed him into it. He has done nothing to prosecute Trump's cronies and the other high-level seditionists, including members of Congress. He has dragged his feet. It is my opinion that he is a coward; he also has Federalist Society connections and is a Republican. I have always wondered if Biden appointed Garland because he (Biden) did not really want to prosecute Trump. Shades of Ford pardoning Nixon - make it all go away.

Expand full comment

I assumed that Garland waited because the Trump supporters were so het up and dangerous, he allowed the Jan 6 committee to take the time necessary to acclimate a violent mob of people to the realities of their actions. Perhaps it could have happened sooner, but I am not eager to inflame an angry mob of crazed White Supremacist militias and Christian Nationalists.

Actually Garland began to investigate trump as soon as he became AG nor was he shamed into it by the J6 Committee. Here's a link with a timeline of what he did and why some falsely believe he dragged his feet.

"But as far as the coup investigation goes, he did not wait two years, or 18 months, or even six months. He began investigating trump when he got there. It’s also untrue that he wanted a bottom up investigation. That was an incorrect assumption the media made. It’s also untrue that he didn’t do anything until Jack Smith was appointed - as evidenced by my non-exhaustive list above. That list was off the top of my head so I’m certain there’s more. It’s also incorrect that the January 6th committee “shamed” Garland into investigating - as evidenced by the timeline of events. In fact, the committee delayed the DoJ investigation by refusing to hand over their materials in a timely manner.

If knowing these facts, you still think Merrick Garland is an ineffective Attorney General, that’s totally fair. But I thought you should know the facts."

So well said, Linda, but isn't that an insult to the pig family? Trump is lower than a pig. True, pigs like to eat garbage and roll around in the mud, but overall not bad animals, not mean spirited or angry all the time: How about a mad dog, foaming at the mouth? :),

Also well said. Which begs the question, why can't Republicans see him in that light? They just shrug off any criticism and say Oh, that's just Trump. They even play down his promises to become a dictator and arrest everyone of his critics, build concentration camps etc., as just talk. But with his new found immunity courtesy of his buddies at the Supreme Court there will be no holding him back! Even if something is proven an official duty the new ruling doesn't allow White House communications of any kind to be used as evidence. He will have basically the same power as Putin. A normal person wouldn't abuse that new power, but we all know Trump is far fro normal. If Biden said all the things Trump said the Republicans would be saying the man crazy and is not fit to be president.

When was the last time you read Eric Hoffer's "The True Believer?"

Hoffer: “Passionate hatred can give meaning and purpose to an empty life. Thus people haunted by the purposelessness of their lives try to find a new content not only by dedicating themselves to a holy cause but also by nursing a fanatical grievance. A mass movement offers them unlimited opportunities for both.”

More Hoffer: “It is the true believer’s ability to 'shut his eyes and stop his ears' to facts that do not deserve to be either seen or heard which is the source of his unequaled fortitude and constancy. He cannot be frightened by danger nor disheartened by obstacles nor baffled by contradictions because he denies their existence.”

And: "It is startling to realize how much unbelief is necessary to make belief possible."

My stomach is turning. I guess I should have realized that the "employee" was a woman. The MAGA crowd would have been reluctant to try that with a man. Then reading the woman who was assaulted was afraid to press charges fearing retaliation? Who are they? What country is this? The cemetery is the agency that should be moving forward on this. They know what happened. One of their employees was assaulted, that is not in dispute. Giving it a bye is giving the Maga crowd permission to do it again. Fear should not be the main feature of a political party. Project 2025 is already in play in Magaville and every time their thuggery is allowed to go unanswered? They win.

How do you know how long Garland "waited"? Or if he waited at all? Do you realize the investigation of Trump, for all intents and purposes, started on Inauguration Day? Do you know anything about the FBI, which is infested with Trump supporters, slow walking interviews? Do you know how long a typical FBI investigation takes? For a good example, take a look at the 7 year investigation of Gillam (spelling?) who ran against DeSantis. Did you want the DOJ to arrest Trump first then investigate? Do you have any idea how many months the J6 Committee set the DOJ back by refusing to share their interviews so prosecutors could compare them with their own interviews of the same people?

It's really discouraging to see this constant criticism of Garland, who is one of the finest public servants in this country's history, by people who don't even have the vaguest idea how our justice system is supposed to work.

-People dumping on the AG insist they saw (wish had $1 for each I know what I saw w/o ever being present in or outside the USCB) a coup and insurrection of 6Jan. They forget Jack Smith didn't see that not find any evidence of iithah.

-People dumping on the AG forget any investigation of 6Jan begins w/the FBI not the DoJ. And on 6Jan that falls under DIR Wray, a Trump appointee.

-People forget no one from the Trump Adm. including from the WH came forth with any information of a conspiracy or loose talk regarding 6Jan before the event or in the immediate aftermath. People forget the designated hero of 6Jan Hearings did not cooperate during her first interviews. And after a change of heart, her testimony was mostly hearsay.

-People forget how many Trump Adm officials and WH staff invoked executive privilege or lawyered up in the immediate aftermath. People forget the USG no longer sanctions torture.

-People forget the Trump WHCO attorneys and the acting DOJ officials fought every subpoena (which is their right) along the way. As did most of the key players.

Thank you Lucian. This felt personal for me too even though my dad came back safe and whole from serving as a medic in WWII, following the infantry as it made its way south to Paris, a journey he refused to describe because the maimed soldiers remained so vivid to him. He brought back only a stomach virus that stayed with him and later caused in the esophageal cancer that killed him more than 4 decades after the war. So he's certainly not at Arlington, which I only became aware of when I was 15 and riveted by President Kennedy's funeral.

Yet the horror I felt viewing that grinning thumbs up image and the two women making weird hand signs remains vivid for me, a desecration of our country rather than my dad's memory of wounded comrades. I was done several years ago asking "is there no bottom?" because it's clear that there never will be. I'm trying to ascertain the most egregious action in this deplorable chain of events:

o the action of shooting campaign ads at a hallowed military cemetery.

o posting these unlawful images to social media, including visible adjacent grave sites with demographic details, upsetting their families.

o grinning and flashing a thumbs up sign over a grave

o physically and verbally abusing a cemetery staffer who was doing her job defending federal regulations against desecrating the site.

o further slandering the cemetery staffer with accusations of "mental health episode" issues

o the Arlington brass not defending a staffer or enforcing federal prohibitions against campaigning on hallowed grounds.

o JD Vance, a military veteran, defending Trump’s campaign actions as video equipment just "happened to be present".

I expect I am asking too much for the proper government entity to file criminal charges against these grifters...
