As baseball players say: UNBE-FUCKING-LIEVABLE! Except, of course, it IS believable-- they are actually saying and publishing this utter crap. How horrible to realize that millions of Americans are such stupid, willfully ignorant, bigoted, morally worthless pieces of human garbage that they believe every word of it.

C’mon, Judith, tell us how you really feel. 😉👍🏻

MTG is the absolute type of person my mother would never have allowed us to play with. In fact, if we mentioned her name, our mouths would have been washed out with soap. She IS the lowest of the effing low.

Expand full comment

Most of the comments thus far are about MTG. But we’ve known that she is insane since her Jewish space lasers remark. The real news here is that the Republican candidate for president of the United States is repeating her comments. Perhaps Biden’s campaign, including at his debate against the orange turd, ought to consist of quoting Trump, followed by the question, Would you really want this person to be president?

Unfortunately, there are many voters who do.

Why isn't MSM just blasting this insanity through the roof. The utter lack of coverage is astounding.

Kind of mistaken attempts at "journalistic fairness," when the fair and accurate procedure would be to much more consistently highlight Trump's insulting level of outright lies and serious distortions of fact?

Journalism has arguably never been more important to us, so it follows that it's important more media outlets beyond MSNBC and The Guardian catch on to what you're emphasizing.

By 2:40PM I only found the MSNBC coverage, just because I happened to be watching when they ran it. But there's "so much other news" today, maybe this will change in a matter of hours.

2024, 9 or so years of Trump Trump Trump and America's mainstream media still doesn't dare to express authentic outrage. They treat each new Trumpism as just another Trumpism. Is a waste to start with a bunch of legal eagles and puppy beagles explaining boilerplate language if Fed and Date Search Warrants. Begin with outrage and end with it. In between work in the facts, not from the mouths of a paid contributor, by showing an example of the language.

Nevermind. It took years before this GEN of self-proclaimed journos to use the word lie and pply it to Trump. Meanwhile, the jamoke at Wapo thinks and believes showing icons of Pinocchio is all it takes to put Trump his his place. Can't wait to one of the conservatives the big name papers employ to intellectualize Trump's words in an Op-Ed.

Expand full comment

You see it on MSNBC from time to time, on The Guardian from time to time, on Salon and some few other media sites. Elsewhere it seems awfully rare - an op-ed once in a blue moon, so not nearly enough!

Expand full comment

Agree including the framing of from time to time. Is a great way of saying the exception affirms the rule.

Expand full comment

I agree - it's a sneaky way to give themselves the veneer of taking Trump, in sum, as a dangerous neo-fascist nitwit, something they can point to even though it's so damn sporadic, and say, "See? We DID run this scathing critique months ago! Now go away!"

I add in fairness that I haven't made a granularly detailed study of the actual headlines for these more accurate op-ed pieces, but the media seems prone to package "the truth about Trump" under fairly restrained headlines, even when something more in the style of the right-wing outlets which get shouty in the cause of promoting bullshiite would make more sense.

It's not as if they need to retool the entire op-ed pages in that style!

Can only add these words, the media's daily covergae of Trump in 2024 exceeds what it did in 2016. Trump's remarks in 2024 are far more absurd and outrageous than they were in 2016 yet drop them into coverage, then poof them away rather than aggregate, and then showing them when the next one drops. Current coverage results in making them appear to be a one-off.

Cable has the resources and daily window to do so. So too does print. Print is the best medium for doing just that including the ability to forward online versions. So tired of folk complaining about the cable news cycle as if it were an etch-a-sketch. It needn't be. Don't know print's excuse for doing the exact same thing.

Expand full comment

Yes!

So many overlook the fact people receive and follow (emphasis) their news from the media. Doesn't matter if it's in print form, social media form, internet form, radio or teevee. How and the way something is covered matters.

In America, the media covers mass shootings as just another news story. There is no expression of outrage as children are hunted and shot dead inside schools. The media makes no effort to show the aftermath of the slaughters, thereby sterilizing the acts of extreme violence. Posting their cute class pics sureadfuq ain't going to amp up a hooman's outrage meter. Same with flashing Trump's idiotic, violent, poorly crafted pronouncements on the screen only long enough for it to be read. Then poof, its gone. There is Reason behind don't look away.

Another example is how Bibi's Israel had the world's attention full about 36 hours during and after 7Oct. They did so with selective pics, vids, and storytells while having possession of 100s of hours of CCTV and cellphone vids that contained unimaginable acts. They compliled them but did not release them to the public while simultaneously asking the world to believe their characterizations.

It's no different in kind, only in degree from America media saying we are not going to show the aftermaths of violence here yet have stills and vids of scores of them.

And what happened once Bibbi ordered the IDF to attack Gaza? Hamas immediately began releasing vids of the lifeless dead kids pulled from the rubble along with those of wimmin. The world was outraged and directed it at Israel. Even today Bibi is threatening to show diplomats from the nation states recognizing Palestine as a state the vids of the Hamas slaughter.

Truth is not a weapon or a countermeasure. Hiding the truth is nevah evah good whether at the nation/state level or the media level or the family level. Truth is not a subject to sanitizing or sterilizing. By doing so, America has pretty much lost its ability to be outraged. A SCOTUS Justice flying the US Flad in distress mode while preaching about masculinity then blaming his wife! We just experienced with Gov. Noem cold words in her book about shooting the family dog because it was a dog, not a hunter/tracker.

Juxtapose with the outrage from her state's ~i9 ndigenous~ for remarks directed at them. Now she cannot step foot on Rez land. Not one foot. My kind understands outrage and how it is to be leveraged to a certain end. Words matter to us. Words matter are often invoked in America society including the media yet they don't know how to take action on them. So, they don't matter. Words have become yt-noise,. Am outraged that a person's word means nothing anymore in this so-called civilized society.

Expand full comment

Amen. Media's short attention span turns reality into clickbait and amplifies propaganda while

diminishing reality. Sterile outrage for 5 minutes then on to the next, which only fries our nervous systems. It's time to get traction and make some decisions such as the tribes made banning Noem. How about no more corruption in the Supreme Court? Breyer went on PBS news and purred that the justices are perfect at monitoring their own ethics.

Who guards the guardians -- the answer should be 'the people'....right?

Boggle, boggle. Every day another mind boggle. Is there one redeeming feature with this woman? And if you really want to be throw-up amused, she is now horrified that Crockett body shamed her, posted a photo apparently of her at Crossfit to prove again, yep, she's got a butch body and of course all this stream of grievances while committing this big fat crime she's announcing, BODY SHAMING. It doesn't seem to dawn on her she's been doing this the whole time she's been up there in D.C. And .

finally those hit turned on the bully and poor bully is over there whimpering in the corner about mean things. Nothing meaner than Marjorie Mouth, Mannish Woman. My comment was in no way intended to malign athletic women, I was simply quoting Rep. Jasmine Crockett's clap-back to a tacky insult from MTG. Thanks for your reply. My intention was to direct my comment to all those who are body shaming Empty G because she’s muscular. Re: Flags

(1) Previously wrote Justice Alito is the de facto Chief Justice and these 2flag incidents (some rpt 3) do nothing to change my position. Blaming the flying of the upside down (signaling distress) US Flag on his wife and then rationalizing the upside US Flag is a proper response to a personal matter is absurd.

(2) The flying of the Pine Tree flag at the Alito vacation home is bizzaro because that flag replaced the US Flag as the flag of prominence. Doing so signals an allegiance to something other than the nation.

The Alito's violated US Flag etiquette, if not code by flying the flag upside down for a personal matter. That should be made clear. It is offensive to those who see it as a symbol of unity, not division. And should be treated with respect. Do not find flag burning to be against the law as others insist. Instead it is a sign of disrespect and dishonor, both go to #1A free speech. Wearing a US flag as a article of clothing is as disrespectful and dishonorable and not a sign of patriotism. Patriotism is about actions, not symbols. And will continue to insist to earn that word, it must come from others rather than a self-declaration. Alito's ignorance of flag etiquette is in itself not enough to call for him to recuse himself on any matter before the Court. As suggested drag him for being ignorant and by challenging is lame excuse of but but but it was my wife. That is far worse and will linger longer than a recusal on Trump and associated cases. Shame him. Don't care if some say he can't be shamed. He can be by memorializing these incidents along w/his shameful YOU LIE during O's SOTU, Shame doesn't wash off w/time. Nor does it end with death.

(3) Do find Speaker Johnson's display of the same flag INSIDE the USCB to be far worse than Justice Alito's unacceptable flag etiquette. To be clear Justice Alito's residences are not same-same w/the USCB and the Speaker of the House is next in line after the VP for the highest office in the land. Worse of all the Speaker is given unspoken and unwritten license to all members of the House and the Senate to fly whatever flag fits their fancy, inside the USCB.

(4) The only flags that should be permitted inside the United States Capitol Building are the US Flag and the 50state/commonwealth and US territorial flags. Not a single other one. Not flags representing branches of the military, vet flags, pride flags, etc. None. Zilch. Nada unless someone is in repose in the Rotunda.

(5) Not going to edit nor make corrections to this post. Its message is what is important to me. The larger one goes to a previous one on understanding the importance of outrage and in this one, shame. No civilized society or civilized nation can exist without outrage and shame. W/o them there is no way to truly hold people to account. It is how civilized societies stay that way.
