Fuck Dominion. Seriously.

But you would think we would’ve all learned by now that accountability and Trump are two words that are never going to be in the same damn sentence and likely never going to be uttered in a court of law. That sounds like a lot of money to you and me but for Ruppert? Didn’t kill his business he can keep spreading even bigger and better lies. Do I sound bitter? You damn bet I do.

Shit will get real when Dominion continues its suits against Giuliani, Powell and others. One of the lawyers on the case said that is exactly the plan. And while we all would have liked to see Rupert (who should be deported), Tucker, Laura and Sean on the witness stand, the follow on cases against the liars have the potential to be far more fun.

Infuriating that the settlement didn’t require Fox’s prime time hosts to face the camera and admit they lied, and what they lied about. The cone of silence about this very lawsuit remains in place. Financial accountability is easy if your Murdoch-rich. The moral and ethical responsibility to our democracy? Where’s that? Swept under the rug. Nothing for the rubes to see here. Grrrr.

Of course it was about money.

Almost all lawsuits are.

Truth is not the aim of any of them, neither is justice.

It also doesn't stop Fox from lying in the future.

So Dominion got their money,

Fox got the silence.

So it goes.

I wish they would stop saying “Fox admitted” anything. Their viewers won’t see any of this as having been lied to. Very disappointing but I’m getting used to being disappointed

Good one, Mr. T. A letdown, certainly, for those of us in the cheap seats. Maybe Smartmatic will see a trial through, but of course they’re not doing it for us, they’re doing it because they can. I have a faint hope that Fox has to issue a further, more embarrassing mea culpa, than the one you cited - most likely from the courthouse steps.

So while Rupert looks for a final wife, my guess is Bartaromo and Pirro and Tucker and the gang will revert to their business as usual “news,” giving their audience what they want. Fox should have a new slogan, however. “We give the crackpots what they want to hear.”

I understand the frustration expressed by many of my co LT followers. I feel it. However the practical aspects of trying a case to judgment are often outweighed by a substantial settlement offer Not just in this instance.

Nothing elicited by the trial of this cause is going to change the MAGA minds nor will it prevent the Fox News wackos from continuing to lie. That’s their stock in trade. 3/4 of a billion is nothing to sneeze at it’s just not a public pillory.

I give this post a like Lucian, unlike the taste in my mouth. My morning coffee has suddenly left a sour residue upon reading of this result. Admittedly it was probably naive of me to believe that Dominion would hold to principles and trust in the jury delivering punitive damages as requested.

*sigh*

I had this foolishly optimistc vision of Murdoch's Fox corp being repeatedly hit with such a vicious run of financial penalties from Dominion, Smartmatic, & shareholder lawsuits that the entire outfit bankrupted and the vultures swooped, selling it all off, with Faux Snooze disappearing from American screens forever. Silly me.

I believe all of us were seriously hoping this trial would take place from start to finish. It's very disappointing for all of us to have it end this way. It feels as though Fox once again got away with it and are now enabled to keep on doing it. But this was a business case and this is the way business cases mostly end. Vanity Fair had an article with photos on the settlement and the legion of attorneys lined up going into the courthouse this morning was pretty amazing. Lots and lots of big billable trial hours which would have been a whole big pile of money. I'm disappointed to the core that we don't get to drag Fox through the mud.

Dominion got what they set out to get in the beginning. Restitution of their losses and the ability to carry on with their business. We can still be grateful for their fight and the revelations revealed in this lawsuit. We have more lawsuits to come and I hope the judge keeps the order for a special master at Fox’s expense in place. A special master can reveal even more outrageous lies and behavior to be used in future suits.

The people disappointed in the settlement need to understand the limits of our civil just system. A lawsuit doesn't determine the "truth," or decide that one side is lying. It can only award money damages. The settlement is substantial and vindicates the claims Dominion made. That's the most we could hope for.

I was thinking of the movie "The Verdict" and contrasting this case with Frank Galvin's attorney character, who has a change of heart and takes his case to trial rather than just grab the money to settle. Too bad Paul Newman wasn't the plaintiff's lawyer here.

The Courts set the condition where corporations can be defamed yet not, We the People. Is another head scratcher and noggin' shaker but do chuckle at Federal action where the words the United States v. _Individual A_ are used. The many inconsistencies, conflicts and contradictions of American epistemology, ontology, axiology, and methodology nevah evah cease to amaze.

Meanwhile, looking forward to the Dominion machine people joining with many others in visiting our ~indigenous~ machines in our casino$. There they are free to scream or curse at them all they want whether they win or lose.

cha-ching

PS As usual Jake Tapper gave self license to claim FoxCorp admitted they lied (in their statement) by claiming HE has the right to translate plain English (which said no such thing no matter how one slices it) into plainer English!
