You might have waited till tomorrow for this column - then you could have called it Ruby Tuesday, which song I cannot get out of my head right now.....
Rufus! Memphis icon. Part of my childhood. When I was in grad school he asked me to dance, and I was too shy to do it. After all, he created the Dog and Funky Chicken....
The late great Irma Clanton hosted a weekly Snack ‘N Rap for the communication/theater students at U of M. She invited politicians, community leaders, and sometimes performers she knew make a presentation and chat with the students. (In addition to being a professor and director, Irma also wrote music with Albert and BB King.) Rufus played Funky Chicken for us, then asked me to do it with him. Had Irma served beer with that popcorn we had....
Thanks for that Lucian. I have been dealing with computer issues and stressing out about the looming Midterms. Popping TUMs like popcorn. Your picture got me back off the ledge. A little.
You got Norma right off. If we just had that kind of hum now, we'd be home free. Unfortunately, we seem to be in some perilous waters. Talk of the wonders of Orban's Hungary and then the insane likes of Arizona's Kari Lake. Not to mention 40 million disturbed "citizens" who salute a leader named Trump. And we have no idea what going on behind the scenes. Maybe art, in all its forms can save us or at least put a damper on the madness.
Terrific song. Once, coming home from high school, I heard this tune for the first time on my car radio.. Jumped out of my car, grabbed my guitar and played what I could of the song. Chords were easy, but I forgot some of the lyrics. Just played it again this morning as I covered an instrumental of Shenandoah. Not sure why, but it worked. You have a good ear.
Ha! My wife was astonished as I sang along. I ran the old Stones video for her.
The leaves can wait...

Blood moon, tho! The Roman auguries would have had a field day with these omens and portents.

I figured if any of my readers had known Rufus, it would be you, Linda.

Better get to work on those leaves. They're not gonna rake themselves.
Love it!!!
A little levity is always welcome, thanks Lucian!
"Well, I sat my monkey on a log
"And ordered him to do the dog.
"He wagged his tail and shook his head,
"Then he went and did the cat instead.
"He's a weird monkey; very funky."
-- Bob Dylan, "I Shall Be Free, #10"
My new dog walking earworm. This will be stuck in my head for …. Well, forever.
Thank you Lucian

Harp player in the venue played it yesterday in our blues revue. Outstanding!

Loved Dusty...anything she sang!
yeah, me too. with a vengeance. her version of "Piece of My Heart" is IMHO vastly better than JJ's, which is the one everybody knows.
That and “Wishin’ and Hoping”. Actually, all of her songs resonated with me.
Just played this an hour ago with dinner!! Great minds ... and Great Music!

As an atheist, I pray you are right
MM also recommended taking along five people who agree with you to vote.
I immediately heard that song in my old noggin as soon as I read the title of your newsletter just now. I love it. You look like one happy old hippy!
Dance our way to Victory!
