Trump's dementia, Trump's violent threats, that asshole from Heritage who threatened violence, the SC Gov. candidate who says some people need killing, Project 2025, Agenda 47 should all be covered by every media outlet every day above the fold or in the A block. None are. Why? Because the corporate media and the DC punditry want to keep Trump and the Republicans relevant and the only way they can do that is to ignore the real story and obsess about Biden's health. It's Hillary's emails all over again.

I am hoping that they might consider covering it during the Republican National Convention, but it seems that the NYT owner wants to tank Biden in one way or another, and WaPo's new right wing editor-in-chief does too.

So totally accurate — WHERE is the coverage of Trump’s pronouncements that in any way rivals coverage of Biden tripping over a consonant here and there, as any stutterer does. …

Yes. That is why I like reading other people's takes on it. However, reading the entire ed article, you get that they basically are saying, everyone who is rich can go to college, and otherwise we have set up ways for the banks and other grifters to lend you money, for an education in college that is no longer even really accredited by the old standards. Big no nos in education are what they call CRT and gender affirming care. Also, everyone is going to be paying for Christian Homeschoolers like the Duggar family of Shiny Happy People, and sexual molestation of girls, to get big bucks from the government to home school. Suggesting that anyone should get what the state pays now per pupil, like $22,000 per each child they have to educate them, well let us tie that into having women breeders to raise some money for the family. So, you have 18 children or whatever the Duggers had, multiply that by 22,000 and you have your yearly income. In addition to "Home schooling" the children you have to make sure wife stays pregnant and breeding so your income does not go down. Once a woman can no longer have children where will she be? Probably exterminated or serving others. This is going to lead back to the Mormon multiple wives situation where you can have economies of scale of children. For the youth, I would like to point out that if they are not wealthy there is going to be no money for college. They also want to get rid of programs that help get high schoolers college ready. I can go on.

Various structures of our bodies contain stem cells. And they have the potential to grow new parts — and just about EVERY cell contains a full contingent of our DNA, as does the first tiny zygote…What parts of us, if cut off from the whole, constitute a “person”? How much more can we muddy this water?

My take on Project 2025:

When Franklin Roosevelt got the New Deal legislation passed including Social Security, public works infrastructure spending and most importantly banking regulations passed, there was a huge revolt from the conservative Republicans in government. The Supreme Court reversed much of the New Deal legislation and Senator Robert Taft, the leader of the Conservatives in the Republican Party denounced the New Deal as socialism. The legislation was incredibly popular, sweeping FDR into a second term in office by an overwhelming majority. But the resistance from the right, made up of wealthy industrialists among others, continued. The Social Security Act was challenged 3 times, but the Supreme Court eventually ruled that it was constitutional. There was so much resistance to the New Deal in the court that FDR tried at one point to increase the number of jurists to "load the court". This effort failed but much of the New Deal was allowed to proceed anyway. Nonetheless, the resistance was formidable politically.

Project 2025 includes goals like defunding public broadcasting and other items considered "socialist" by the right wing of American politics. There are some who would still argue that Social Security is unconstitutional. Recent rulings by the current Supreme Court imply that issues like contraception may well be challenged by the court and that is one of the tenants of Project 2025 as is no fault divorce and a national ban on abortion without exceptions. Defunding commissions like the SEC and the FDA among others are also goals.

It is clear to me that the resistance FDR felt in the 1930s to the expanded role of government, to include providing protections to the American public, are still foremost in the minds of those right wing elements. Like abortion, those resistant do not give up. They are like dogs who grab on and cannot let go. Today we see the very real result of this effort. Most of the things Project 2025 projects are not popular with the general public. Trumpism is not a majority desire in our country. But, like in FDR's time, what is popular or even demanded is not necessarily what ends up winning.

Vote and insist that everyone you know votes. Point out the negatives of this project to those you know who admire Trump. Do they really want contraceptives to be declared illegal? Do they really want divorce to be made far more difficult? Perhaps they would not be happy with new erectile dysfunction drugs like Viagra contested by judges who adhere to the new Supreme Court decision limiting the processes of the FDA. Or perhaps it's ok with them that these drugs are no longer vigorously tested because the FDA gets dumped by a new Trump administration. I think people would think twice about electing these kinds of officials if it affected them personally.

Scary times. But take heart. The far right in France got royally busted 2 days ago in their elections, after everyone thought they would win. The moderates and leftists joined together to defeat them prominently. It can happen here too. It doesn't matter who is at the top of the Democratic Party's ticket in November. What matters is that Trump and the far right are defeated.

Expand full comment

Very well said. The New Deal was anathema to the white right, and it got worse in the mid-1960s when those civil rights and social programs were expanded to include (theoretically at least) people of color. We've been living in the backwash of the Nixon-Reagan reaction ever since.

Expand full comment

Nixon/ Reagan?? The Nazi funded coup was attempted in 1939 and several US congressmen and Senators (Robert Taft was one) were busted and tried. Misstrial decalared and Truman had all the evidence put away in the National Archive. I would think that most of us here would already be up to speed on that with Rachel Maddow's ULTRA podcast.

Ronnie Raygun was the calming face of GE theater to soften up the nation to trickle down economics and the military build up of the Cold War, from which GE, the largest military contractor in the world would become a world power in it's own right, as the industrialists who used Hitler tried.

Senator Robert Taft was busted and tried for his paticipation in carrying out a coup to overthrow the government of the UNITED STATES of AMERICA for Adolph Hitler, in 1939. The phrase "from conception to natural death" is used several times.

And Freedom Cities. On National Forests (after carefully raking them to prevent fires?). National grasslands (ditto) National Parks? Assume they find a spot. They will have to provide JOBS because there aren't any in the middle of wilderness. They will have to provide hospitals, schools, roads, sewage systems, water and electricity enough to support a "city." Lets hear it for cutting Federal spending.

Of course, private enterprise could provide all that. From scratch. So what would they then charge to buy a house in the new city in order to cover their costs?
