NATO is very, very quickly going to face a major decision. Putin, and Russia, can keep going. After Ukraine is conquered, Putin can move on Poland. He can move on Slovakia. He can move on Hungary. All have a border with Ukraine. He can move on Latvia. He can move on Estonia. They have borders with Russia.
What is NATO going to do if what Putin means to do is reassemble the Russian/Soviet empire? Is Europe just going to sit back as Putin attacks one country after another, all the while saying what he said last night? If any NATO nation responds with force, he’s got nukes, and “it will lead you to such consequences as you have never before experienced in your history.”
Putin’s move on Ukraine is blackmail against Europe, plain and simple. Do what I say, or else.
Right. Agree with your thought that this is how Hitler started, annexing Sudetenland and Austria for very similar reasons. Then Poland. Agree with you completely. Throw in the Baltic states, etc. Once NATO is pricked... This is how WW1 started - interlocking treaties. We now have NATO. Same deal. This could quickly become a pan-European war. Amazing how Putin's phrasing about "consequences such as you've never seen" sounds a lot like our former President. That's language he would have used. Sounds like Putin was studying him.
Hitler with nukes, yes. And Ukraine with nuclear power plants that are not exactly built to US standards. All very vulnerable to attack. NATO needs to wake up and smell the coffee.
