I cannot under any circumstances see how any Republican Senator can refuse to convict him after the additional camera footage of the insurrection came out. It's horrifying and those who think it was a one-off should be removed from office as aiding and abetting terrorism. That's a crime, too...
As I understand it, they are afraid for their lives. Witness the intimidation and death threats experienced by the 10 Republicans who voted for impeachment. That said, I think that as more and more videos from the insurrection reach the public, the more the public hears about the activity of the seditionists within the Congress (Gosar, Bobaert, et al.), the more sickened and outraged the public becomes and the higher the price will be for the Republican party to shirk its duty to impeach the criminal they flagrantly enabled for more than four years. Unfortunately, I believe that even if Trump is impeached, we are witnessing the beginning not the end of the winter of the insurrectionist's discontent.
If enough people are put in prison they might have second thoughts about doing any more insurrection, given that DT will never pardon any of them-nay, he won't even give them a second thought while he lives in FL. But if enough people from the states where all these quasi traitors live get sick and tired of them, they might have the courage to recall them and have special elections to replace those who can't do their duty.
I think in the long run that is what is likely going to happen. Already we're reading about the people who were there for peaceful protest only, but were "pushed into the Capitol by the crowd." Right. As consequences are visited on them, as their mettle is tried, they'll begin to think about the costs and doubtless there will be dropouts from the cause. I also count on public outrage rising in the face of more radical actions by the disaffected, which will put more pressure on the fracture in the Republican party. Hopefully it will cause them to splinter into two fragments—the fringe and the traditionalists—and lead to defeats at the ballot box.
