I owe the Methodist church a lot, am glad the church nationally seems done with surprising turmoil over gay issues. This handsome structure looks healthy. Nice shot, Tracy.
We hope! It really fractured the church in AL & other states. I have friends in small towns who left their lifelong church after it disaffiliated from UMC, & are now attending a UMC in another town.
My rural eastern NC church has been torn apart by the separation process. The sad thing is people I thought were followers of Christ turned out to be people who really wanted to discriminate against others.
Yes, it is sad, seeing that in people who you thought differently of. Many left our specific UMC congregation to join other denominations or disaffiliated Methodist groups. I keep repeating to myself key teachings about judging others, & continue to support my UMC congregation.
That is so sad!—also, in terms of my own experience, unimaginable. But the town where I grew up had Methodist Episcopal, Southern Methodist, and AME churches, so I guess separation is a traditional Methodist means of survival.
What I'm sure was the same storm hit Brooklyn Heights late this afternoon as I was walking back from the library. About halfway home it started as a few drops, but when I reached the far end of the long block on which I live it had become a steady rain. I went as fast as my arthritic legs could go until I reached the welcoming shelter of the temporary sidewalk shed that extends the length of the two street facing sides of my building. I'm eager to see the shed go, but today I was grateful for it. By the time I got to my apartment the rain was a full fledged torrent and the wind was howling.
Is that on the square where the main route goes through town? We used to trek through Milford on our way from WEST Milford, NJ, to various places in PA.It’s such a beautiful town … Enjoy a quiet evening, Mr. Truscott, as we all eagerly await your thoughts in the days to come …
Glad you are safe… we had a brief but nasty storm come through the Midwest 10 days ago … other than a section of fencing all good… grateful for being spared! Rest up… you are doing important work and I am not alone in appreciating it!
I love storms. After reading John Muir I became my mom’s worst nightmare by climbing up our front yard pine tree as high as I could go whenever a storm came through….
I love storms too, but I enjoy them from inside with a nice cuppa. Storms outside increase the feeling of being safe and comfy inside, plus that's the kind of drama I appreciate.
A night off is healthy. Enjoy.
The calm after the storm, the calm before the storm .
I hope to see that town one day. You have made it come alive in your writing.
We are UMC, glad to see that church is still. ❤️
I am as well. I’d recognize that as a Methodist church without being told. Classic.

I don't think the folks that deny UMC's tolerant doctrine can designate their churches UMC. According to AP, some breakaways call themselves the Global Methodist Church. https://apnews.com/article/congregations-leaving-united-methodist-church-lgbtq-bans-70b8c89ea49174597f4548c249bab24f
This is what is at stake. A regular day, a regular life and one where it's is even better for our children. That's all.
Lucian, thank you for all you do. 🩵

Glad you and the church weathered the storm.
We are ending 3 days of “excessive heat warnings” in the Willamette Valley. It’s only 87, down 10 degrees from last night.

Makes me think of Jan Karon and her Mitford, No. Carolina novels.

There is nothing, to my mind, more refreshing than the perfume — yes, that’s the right word — of newly washed earth, and everything that lives on it.
I’ve been told that it’s ozone that graces my olfactories after a good rain. So be it. I still love it. ❤️☺️
Please convey my thanks to Tracy for this beautiful capture of the after-rain.
As a good middle of the road Methodist, I approve that photo!
glad you were spared, must be doing something right....
It was the same here. That light was - well - just as you caught it. perfect.
