That's obscene. I worked in the building trades in Brooklyn and Manhattan in the early 1980s when this guy first splashed onto the scene in a cloud of hot-glued macaroni and gold radiator paint. He was a joke, a grifter and a scumbag then, and EVERYBODY knew it. I still don't understand how he ever convinced such a sizeable sector of the electorate that he was anything else. Don't they encounter enough scumbags in their own daily lives to know one when they see one? It's baffling.
That may be the best description ever of djt's NYC breakthrough years, Christopher. A lot of what kept the tabloid heds flowing was the grotesqueness, both him and his surround—Roy, Ivana, Marla. …. But I worked with one stylish, ambitious UES woman who inexplicably bought the whole package. Then she multiplied exponentially and here we are.
How could a self-respecting UES (New York City's Upper East Side for the abbreviation-challenged) woman "have bought the whole package" from a Bridge and Tunnel putz? ("Bridge and Tunnel" was, maybe still is, the way Manhattan snobolas referred to those "outer borough and Joiseyites who had and have to get into Manhattan every day using one of the bridges or tunnels. Staten Island residents arriving by ferry, not a bridge or tunnel, presumably live in a different area in Hell.
The weekly I worked for at the time, the then-start-up nyObserver, was looking for a lot of luxury boutique display advertising and she was exactly the type you'd expect to be able to sell space to those businesses. I barely knew her but she seemed to be nice enough. As I said, the soft spot for djt was inexplicable. It takes all types and she was one that I, a resolute downtown type, normally never run into.
I must say, these times are the revenge on Manhattan of the bridge and tunnel putzes. They've learned to appreciate the comforts of home—or the Murdoch media have scared them into staying there—and NYC is suffering for it. This week AM WCBS, on air for a century, all-news for 57 years, retired the call letters and went to full-time sports.

Two words - Mark Burnett.
Burnett needs to release the n-word tapes he bragged about having
Even as somebidy who never saw one of his shows, I know Mark Burnett has a lot to answer for.
