" Trump has now left the courtroom and we should have access to the full indictment soon." First stop likely the men's room to change his wet and soiled diaper. Kinda hoped the upsell on the misdemeanor would be taxes (just like Al Capone) and not the federal election laws. The tax violations, like the misdemeanor conduct, are STATE charges. Looks like there can be no way for Drumpf to appeal to SCOTUS and HIS judges there.

Ah, you and I both banking on the old Al Capone bring-down.

Expand full comment

That is what I have said since the beginning, that RICO would bring him down. I still have hope. We are definitely in uncharted territory. We live in interesting times.

Or tax fraud, Al Capone style. History seems to like repeating itself. That kind of is another sign he yes, has chutzpah but he's stupid underneath it.

As I've been saying for a year or 2, tRump will be Al Kaponed!

I will not watch because it (TFG) sickens me so. You are going to be my only source on this. Many, many thanks.

Same here. I can't bear hearing him nor looking at him. But I can certainly bear knowing he's pretty miserable about now. If he's upset now, I hope the others are soon to follow.

Karma has entered the building

And it's soon going to be knocking on all the other doors, too. Just the first domino to fall. It's been said there was reluctance to be the first to indict this criminal. Now that that's out of the way, let's go, guys, all the rest of you.

Thanks for the succinct update. Bragg is upping the ante and making the charges clear. I think Trump and his second-rate lawyers may now realize that they are at bat in the big leagues, not in the TruthSocial league. At last this miscreant has been charged with violations of the laws of this land. May he suffer appropriately in the court system.

The new attorney apparently resigned from his law firm to represent Trump. I hope this works out about as well for him as I hope it works out for Trump.

I wish we didn't feel the need to know, but thanks for the reporting. I'm an Election Judge in Illinois and don't have access to the wall-to-wall coverage. That makes this job feel even more worthwhile.

On the topic of potential punishment, I have a confinement -free suggestion: rescind the family name-change, forcing all media to refer to them all as Drumpf. Cruel, I know, but fair.

Expand full comment

Nothing cruel about it. If Trump represents anything at all it's his practice and love of cruelty toward others. So karma usually dishes back to you the worst about yourself.

Finally, the proverbial snowball has been kicked down the hill. Now, we turn to Georgia for the same. Now feeling my grittiest and thus happiest about this unfolding, I offer this quote for thought for our group:

"Oh Lestat, you deserved everything that's ever happened to you. You better not die. You might actually go to hell.”

Heard the tail end of Bragg's press conference. He ain't playing around. It sure sounded like he has all the evidence he needs to convict Trump of conspiracy as well as a bunch of business crimes. In short, Trump fucked around and is about to find out.

Thanks for watching and distilling this for us. I’m out of the loop today and appreciate this!

Yes, but the judge said he would not issue a gag order because out of respect for an ex president who he believed was running for office again. It would violate his right to free speech. Excuse me? Drumpf has upped the rhetoric inciting violence again when are they gonna treat him like the dangerous criminal that he is? I thought one of this indictment’s benefits would be to show him that he is not above the law that he is not any more exempt than another man. He never should’ve been president. That is clear, but that he was doesn’t permanently confer upon him a level of respect that he’s never earned. I think he absolutely should have had a gag order on all violent ranting. Which you can count on will begin tonight

Expand full comment

Maybe a gag order wasn't put in place so that the former president had ample opportunity to hang himself with his own rope by continuing to spew lies.

Expand full comment

I like thinking this.

Expand full comment

This is day one. He didn’t issue a gag order today. He did admonish him about threats to the DA. It takes time for the defense to build a case per the charges they just saw today. The judge allowed plenty of rope, because there’s plenty of time. Defendants are recalled to court everyday for violating terms of their bail... this is the dude that brought a criminal circus to the White House... I’m guessing he’ll be recalled and sanctioned before this case goes to trial.

Instant Karma, John Lennon ---- Any "violent ranting which (we) can count on will begin tonight" definitively destroys the Trump cult's defense on this issue, that would otherwise have been available, and even received some acceptance by the ignorant and credulous out there in the hinterlands, if the gag order had been ordered from the jump.

The cult will yowl and howl and growl anyway, but INSTANT KARMA gonna get him, get it?

John Lennon, Plastic Ono Band, Yay!!

Yes, mighty convenient to get an exception to the law simply because one is running for office. Nothing prone to abuse there!

Whoa man, I bet Trump is feeling the pressure of real life being charged, controlled, and in front of a judge, especially projecting reality to the dark clouds of the other, and much worse, cases coming at him. Gulp. Personally, I think Trump just became a flight risk. Russia, Russia, Russia indeed. Daddy Putin. Who ain't doing too well either. Keeps tabs on Trump's jet! I can see a mid-air faceoff over the Atlantic.

His face looked very grim and he had to be quiet. No spouting off, no baseball bats with Bragg's face in batting range.

I for one would love to see this. Out of our hair at last, and no more martyr act.

I have serious Trump fatigue but I had it long before 2016.

Why is it most of us have known, from day 1, Trump is utterly depraved and a malignant everything? How can folks fall for this guy? Sure makes one pause and ask the question "what is reality?"

It's so thoroughly exasperating, isn't it?

You gotta love Bragg. Well played.

So... want to commit crimes and then be let off the hook so it doesn't become "political?" Run for president (or any public office, presumably). Is that what we want the law to be like?

Oh, Lucian, don't forget the little sleazier because it's little one, the out of wedlock $30,000 payment to the doorman. I've seen already "other prosecutors" disappointed in the weak little nothing "politically oriented" charges. Ha. Tax fraud got Al Capone. It would be so fitting if that got Trump on this and then the others to follow. He looked pretty miserable today. It was obvious this is wearing on him. Good. It's about time.

I think a lot of people underestimate Bragg. He may be new to this position, but he’ll hardly inexperienced!

He is not new to the D.A.’s office though. He is new to being THE Manhattan DA. He has prosecuted many similar cases like this one in the 20 years he’s been at his job.
